The Western Ireland region
County Mayo is located in the North West of Ireland along the Atlantic coast. It is a region of green fields and hills and with water crossing the land it is a great location for those who wish to go walking, angling or golfing. It is a region of peace and serenity with a stress-free holiday doing what you enjoy surrounded by the mythical land that has inspired so many. The weather in the region has been known to be unpredictable however it does have four distinct seasons making it a little easier than other parts of Ireland to predict.
The Historical town of Ballinrobe lies some 48 km north of Galway, on the N84 road which connects Galway to Castlebar. The town is awaiting a bypass. It is linked to Claremorris by the R331.
A bus service running three times a day between Galway and Ballina passes through Ballinrobe and Castlebar.
Ballinrobe railway station was opened on 1 November 1892; it closed to passenger traffic on 1 June 1930; and it finally closed altogether on 1 January 1960. Ballinrobe was a branch line from Claremorris.

"first class stay"
Absolutely lovely holiday. Cottage was lovely and cosy and the turf fire created abeautiful atmosphere. Everything we needed was there right down to kids toys and dvds. Our hosts Martin and Catherine couldnt be more welcoming beautiful scones and jam on arrival, a pumpkin for kids to carve, home baked apple pie, bag of logs for fire. Will definitely book here again. Our children said it was their best holiday ever!!
