The County Fermanagh region

Donegal Coast - the coastline of Co Donegal in the West of Ireland boasts more sandy beaches than any other county in Ireland and many hold the coveted EC Blue Flag status. The region is renowned for its rugged and unspoilt scenery as well as its local crafts including the famous Donegal Tweed.

There are many attractions that you can enjoy while in County Fermanagh:

Castle Coole - 7miles. A magnificent neo-classical house designed by James Wyatt, family home of the Earls of Belmore. It has remarkably fine interiors and exquisite furniture and furnishings from the period before 1830.

Crom Castle Estate - 25 miles. Includes Crom Old Castle. 1,350 acres of woodland, park land and wetland. One of Northern Ireland's most important nature conservation areas.

Florence Court - 12 miles. One of the most interesting and important houses in Ulster, built in mid-eighteenth century by John Cole. The house has magnificent plaster work and its striking rococo dining-room ceiling was fortunately saved from fire in 1955. The rest of the plaster work has been meticulously restored. The grounds provide an excellent picnic site or a place to just sit and admire the views.

Marble Arch Caves - 13 miles. These magnificent Mesozoic limestone caves have an extensive network of caverns, and may be viewed from a boat. Well worth the visit. Booking advisable.

Ancient Burial Grounds - You will discover many of these dotted around the surrounding countryside. We can provide you with maps showing where to look for them.

Belleek Pottery - 25 miles. This world famous pottery offers guided tours and has a visitor's centre.

Devenish Island - 5 miles. Can be reached by ferry. It is one of the largest of some 200 islands to be found in Lough Erne, and is the site of ruins of an abbey, and of a perfect 12th century round tower.

Lough Erne by Boat - There are a variety of boats offering day cruises on Lough Erne's extensive waterways.

Fermanagh Tourist Information Centre - 6 miles. Fermanagh District Council Tourist Information Centre, Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh, N.I.

Enniskillen Castle - 6miles. Incorporating The Regimental Museum, and The Watergate History and Heritage Centre. The Castle also holds a variety of other exhibitions throughout the year.

The Ulster History Park - 20 miles. Trace the story of settlement in Ireland, from the Stone Age to the 17th Century Plantations.

Ballinamallard is a small, bright village located north of Enniskillen. It is immediately obvious to the visitor that this is a particularly neat and well maintained village that has a very clean and fresh feel to it. This has been recognised by the award of several ‘best kept village’ titles, and the dedication of a fountain to mark the honour.

Like almost all of Fermanagh’s towns and villages, water is never too far away from you in Ballinamallard, with Erne tributaries flowing through and around the village. It is particularly noted for its trout fishing.

Irvinestown only 3 miles away is known for its equestrian connections, with the Necarne Castle Equestrian School located nearby.

The hotel hosts an annual fishing competition in the first week of May that has grown to become internationally recognised as one of the most prestigious angling competitions in the world. A large prize fund and guaranteed quality angling attract the top anglers in the world to compete.

"The perfect place for a short break"

A beautiful house, surrounded by a breath taking landscape. A great place to spend time with family and friends. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here and intend to return in the near future. Arriving, staying, and departing were stress free and simple. On arrival a fire had been prepared and the kitchen was stocked up with some essentials. Overall a great place to stay.

Thank you for taking the time to submit a positive review. I really appreciate it!!

""We're here it's unreal!!""

We chose Lavender House to celebrate my husbands 60th Birthday, all our needs and more were catered for. When we arrived, a warm cosy fire was waiting and a welcoming treat of scrumptious biscuits ready for a warm cuppa. Vera had decorated the sunroom for our Birthday surprise, nothing was too much trouble. There were nine adults, one teenager, two small children and two six month old babies. We had a lovely family time in this beautiful country house. We all enjoyed cooking in the kitchen, playing with the children and having great craic in the pool room. The young children enjoyed the toys throughout the house and had great fun playing hide and seek. Everything about Lavender House was perfect and we hope to return in the not too distant future. A big thankyou to Vera for her kind hospitality.

Thank you very much for your positive comments!!! I really appreciate you taking the time to review Lavender House. Many Thanks Vera

"Absolutely Superb"

I am not one for writing and I very rarely write reviews, but I must say this place is worth writing a review about. The landlady (Vera) was a delight to work with, very helpful and accommodating for a large group of friends(12 adults) who were over from England for a friends wedding near by. The house is superb, well kept and everything you could want from multiple lounges (so people can do their own thing), a large kitchen where everyone can chip in to a pool room. The bedrooms are all well sized doubles, with 1 room in particular a must with an exceptional en-suite (my recommendation is to get in the house first and call this room your own!). Not only is the house perfect, it is an easy 90 minute drive from Belfast Airport (where we flew in to) and also there is lots of countryside and nearby towns to keep you occupied. All in all, a superb package and I would go again.

Thank you very much for your positive comments!! I really appreciate you taking the time to review Lavender House! Many Thanks Vera

Lovely house suitable for big family group or friends. Nice location in the countryside with good views for that away from towns feeling but close enough to shops and a garage to shops to pick up bits and pieces by car in 15 minutes if needed. House generally well appointed with relaxed atmosphere. Good space in the house for large groups of people of different ages or when people want to do different things in different rooms. Quibbles: Although the ground floor bedroom was very useful for our two elderly guests, for smaller groups or if not required for a bedroom, having an option to revert it to its original purpose as a dining room would also be very nice. Especially in the longer summer evenings with its sliding door leading to a lovely veranda overlooking the countryside. Such an option would allow the conservatory to be furnished with easy chairs making it a very comfortable, relaxed communal sitting area rather than just the dining area with hard backed dining chairs; King size beds would be a welcome addition to the main bedrooms and prehaps one twin bedroom would be a useful option too; Some patio furniture would have allowed us to sit out more in the unexpected sunshine and the broken wi-fi connection for part of our week was annoying especially with teenage kids anxious for it to be fixed. Ultimate test: would we go back and stay again at lavander house and would we recommend it to friends? Yes to both questions!

Delighted to see your positive comments on our homely country house, which as you pointed out is nicely situated in the countryside and just a very convenient 1 mile from the village. I appreciate your point re the ground floor bedroom, but as you mentioned you had two elderly guests with you, if this had been a dining room as you suggested then you would not have been able to avail of the house at all, and as I am very conscious of the needs of those who can’t climb the stairs, this is my reason for having the ground floor bedroom. As Lavender House was our family home for 23 years, we had many a fantastic sociable day, and definitely evenings, around the dining room table in the conservatory. With its panoramic views of the countryside and easy access to the patio area, we have found with our Fermanagh weather, it is best to only put out the patio furniture after Easter week, but of course it is always available on request if the weather has a sunny period prior to this, as in your case, as it is kept in the summer house. Re the king size beds, I’m sorry I don’t understand what you mean as the house has a king size bed in two of the rooms and in the twin room on the top floor of the house, a double and single bed. Finally, unfortunately I was unable to do anything about the wi fi as with the pleasures of modern technology I have no say in any problems which BT may have been experiencing.
