Getting around

You will need a car, as Galwiji is 3 km from the Midland Highway (between Geelong and Ballarat) down a well-made road that's dirt for the last 2 km. The nearest public transport is in Buninyong, where the bus will take you to Ballarat Railway Station from where you can catch the train to Melbourne or Ararat.

Interaction with guest

We live offsite, but we will be there to greet you when you check-in and check-out. You will have the entire Homestead at your disposal, but there maybe other guests camping on the farm (at least 2 km away) and of course farm work going on on a regular basis. Farm workers will do their best to keep away from the Homestead and to keep noise to a minimum. Either Bill and Ann Pryor, Bev our wonderful property manager, or Malcolm Pryor will be available by phone to you during your stay should you have any questions. On check-in, we will give you a quick guided tour as well as ask you to read and sign our orientation guide and provide us with some photo I.D.

“A joyful occasion”

Reviewed 8 Apr 2018

We enjoyed celebrating Amy's birthday at Galwiji Homestead with her family and friends recently. The food was yummy, and the place was cosy. There was never a dull moment! My friend and I had a lovely walk, and she took lots of good photos. Kids had a great time too. In fact, my bushwalk group is talking about a weekend away later this year at Galwiji. Thank you, Malcolm. What a nice stay.

Owner's reply: Dear Lin, thank you for your review. It was our pleasure to have you to stay. I am also glad that we were able to get your blanket back to you safely :) We look forward to the pleasure of your company again soon. Kind regards, Malcolm Pryor, Operations Manager, Galwiji Homestead.

“Wonderful Farmhouse”

Reviewed 28 Jan 2018

We stayed at Malcom's house for a Girls Weekend Away- we could not have had a more perfect place. The house is great, we had 20 people and we all fitted in comfortably. The house is very well set up with a kitchen that has everything! Buninyong is a short drive away for essentials or Ballarat about 20mins away- this said it is very secluded and peaceful. Malcom was great, very easily contactable and professional. Would highly recommend Malcom's place!

Owner's reply: Dear Jo, thanks for such a lovely review. Your group was an absolute pleasure to host, and I hope you can find another event to create a weekend away around! :) Kindest regards. Malcolm Pryor, Operations Manager, Galwiji Homestead.

“Perfect location for a family reunion...”

Reviewed 10 Jan 2018

We booked the homestead for our annual Cousin's weekend away before our family Christmas function and it was exactly what we needed! We 6 families that stayed ranging from 2 - 30+ in age and we all had an amazing time. The property is perfect for all ages and desired activity level, whether it be going on long walks, running around playing with the kids or sitting by the fire and having a glass of wine. The location of the house is perfect, not only does it offer privacy and seclusion so noise is no issue, but is only a 5 - 10 minute drive from Buninyong where you have supermarkets and cafes at your disposal. The service provided by the family is second to none. They are welcoming, warm and genuine people who want you to enjoy your stay in their family homestead. I would like to thank Malcolm and the Pryor family for having us and we are very excited to return next year with the family.

Owner's reply: Dear Lauren, what a lovely review. I'm seriously flattered! I'm so glad that you and your extended family took advantage of all the Galwiji had to offer. It was our pleasure to host you. We're also all about family, so a group like yours is what we're in business for :) My kindest regards and thanks again. Malcolm Pryor, Operations Manager, Galwiji Homestead.

“Fantastic Property!”

Reviewed 8 Jan 2018

This gorgeous property is something sure to be seen! I was so amazed with the large open spaces and the beautiful homestead gardens! I found this property to be perfect for anyone & everyone! The homestead itself has such a comfortable homey feel which makes anyone feel welcome! Location is perfect, private & secluded yet only a short drive from Buninyong & surrounds! I also cannot speak more highly of the wonderful service provided by Malcolm and his family! They go above and beyond and I thank them so very much for a lovely experience at your homestead! I will continue to spread the word just how fantastic the entire experience was! Thank you again :)

Owner's reply: Dear Carlie, thanks for your lovely review of Galwiji Homestead. Hopefully we can have the pleasure of company again soon. Kind regards. Malcolm Pryor, Operations Manager.

“Peaceful, homely and convenient”

Reviewed 19 Nov 2017

We stayed at Galwiji while on a road trip from our home in Maitland NSW. We stayed for 5 nights with our 6 kids aged 4 to 17. Galwiji had heaps of room for the whole family both to sleep and to relax during the day. There was so much to do and everyone was entertained. The table football was a big hit as well as the telescope and some bushwalking. We experienced a range of weather and yet stayed completely comfortable with electric blankets and slow combustion fires for the colder nights and lots of windows for light and breeze when it was warmer. We loved how convenient Galwiji was to all of the popular attractions. It seemed whenever we entered a destination into the GPS it was only 20 mins away. We loved the stay and would definitely come again if travelling down that way. Thanks Mal and Team.

Owner's reply: Phil, it was our pleasure to have you and Trichelle and your lovely kids stay at Galwiji. We think it's pretty convenient to attractions too, but it's possible we may be a little biased. :) We're glad it met your needs so well! Kindest regards. Malcolm Pryor, Operations Manager, Galwiji Homestead.

“Charming old farmhouse”

Reviewed 13 Nov 2017

Galwiji accommodated our 3 young families comfortably. The house is huge and there was plenty of room for the young ones to run around, both inside and out. We enjoyed sitting by both inside fires at various times with a glass of wine. The location is fantastic, a short scenic drive from Melbourne but you feel like you are miles away from anything on the farm. The owners and property manager were a pleasure to deal with.

Owner's reply: Dear Donna, we are so glad that you, your family and your friends came to stay at Galwiji. And I agree. There's nothing like a glass of wine by the fire :) Kind regards. Malcolm Pryor, Operations Manager, Galwiji Homestead.

“Great place to relax”

Reviewed 27 Oct 2017

We stayed with 15 adults and 17 kids for 3 nights at Galwiji (spread over 1 other nearby property) and we had a ball! It was a 50th wedding anniversary and all ages had fun. We got greeted at arrival and the manager was very prompt in answering phone calls and emails. It's a very homely place. The Lal Lal falls and Mount Bunninyong made for a fun afternoon as well as the well marked walks around the property. We highly recommend it.

Owner's reply: It was our honour to have the extended Adriaanse family stay for the 50th wedding anniversary of Barbara and Hugh. We are so chuffed that you chose Galwiji Homestead and that it met the needs of your family so well. Please come and stay again any time. It would be our pleasure to welcome you! Malcolm and Rosemary, Ann and Bill Pryor. P.S. Thank you also for the lovely card. It made our day.

“Loved it !”

Reviewed 24 Oct 2017

Our group of three families loved our 3 night stay at Galwiji Homestead. It was a great place to unwind and relax in such a peaceful setting. The kids enjoyed the wide open spaces. Looking forward to coming again soon.

Owner's reply: Colin, it was an absolute pleasure to have you, your family and friends over from South Australia to visit us at Galwiji. The place is all about big family groups, so you're our cup of tea :) We await your next visit with anticipation. Kindest regards. Malcolm Pryor, Operations Manager, Galwiji Homestead.

“Family Retreat”

Reviewed 9 Oct 2017

We have just spent 3 fantastic days at Galwiji. I highly recommend it! We had 3 families and 8 children between us and it accommodated us with ease. There is so much to do there; grounds to explore, local places to visit, games to play! Regardless of the weather the kids were occupied (and off screens!) and having a great time. We did both walks around the property which were very enjoyable and then the treck up Mt Buningyong to enjoy the view. We cooked at home and had a great meal at the local pub - it is so easy to travel into town for eating, shopping or just the coffee and papers to enjoy while relaxing back at the house. The house is so comfortable and not too precious to enjoy with lots of kids. We would thoroughly recommend it and will definitely return. Thank you!

Owner's reply: Dear Cate, it was our pleasure to host your group of 3 families during the school holidays. I'm so glad you enjoyed the bush walks too - the 'forest' is getting more and more wildlife in it every time I go through. Please come and visit again soon. Kind regards. Malcolm Pryor, Operations Manager, Galwiji Homestead.

“Peace and Tranquility”

Reviewed 4 Oct 2017

Could not have picked a better spot for a group of 6 Masters squash players from the NT to spend 2 weeks - there was ample room, truly enjoyed the games room with friendly competitions of table tennis on a regular basis, plenty to see in the area, both the walks on the property were fabulous, and the homey feeling of ma and pa made us feel quite at home. After hectic days on the squash courts, to come 'home' to Galwiji was the recovery we all needed. Would totally suggest anyone wanting a piece of yesteryear to discover this beautiful property - it was lovely to meet Ann, Bill & Malcolm and thanks also to Bev - all of whom were delightful. Thank you again from the group of NT Masters squash players.

Owner's reply: Kay, you and the NT Masters Squash team really are part of the family at Galwiji now. We were absolutely blessed to have such lovely guests stay. I know that it might be tough for you to get back to Galwiji again, but you sure would be welcome if you were able :) :) Thanks also for a lovely review. Kindest regards. Malcolm Pryor, Operations Manager, Galwiji Homestead.
