When the weather is fine, you can enjoy a BBQ on your private patio or make the most of the long summer evenings around the fire pit while taking in the view and planning your next adventure. The only disturbance is the sound of sheep and birds.

All guests have access to private parking, secure bicycle storage, bike wash facilities and a laundry which also has a shared freezer. We provide bedlinen and towels.

Location description from owner

The North Wales region

Ty Beic is on the southern edge of Snowdonia National Park and is the perfect base to explore all that North Wales has to offer.

We are approximately 30 minutes drive from the mountain bike centres of Coed y Brenin, Llandegla, Antur Stiniog (Blaenau Ffestiniog), Revolution Bike Park (Llangynog), One Giant Leap (Llangollen) and the ClimachX, Marin and Penmachno MTB trails. Because these trails are purpose built they are well drained and therefore rideable throughout the year. When things get a bit muddy in Surrey the trails will still be clear up here. There is also plenty of mountain biking to be had on the doorstep without having to get in a car and we'd be happy to show you some of the routes and trails we have discovered.

The area is also superb for road cycling, with quiet country roads, beautiful scenery, epic climbs and exhilarating descents on the doorstep. Bwlch y groes, the highest road pass in Wales, Horseshoe Pass, the 'Shelf', Moel Arthur and Bwlch Penbarras are all within riding distance. Indeed 'Bwlch' can be seen from Ty Beic.

We like to run and walk the local trails and will be happy to show you a few routes if you fancy some time off the bike. There are footpaths everywhere, including one through the property. We are on the southern edge of Snowdonia National Park and Snowdon is a pleasant and scenic 40 minute drive away. Aran, the highest British mountain south of Snowdon, is a 15 minute drive and Cadair Idris about 30 minutes. Away from the honey pots of Snowdonia, there are also spectacular walks in the Berwyn mountain range. The walk to Cadair Berwyn from Pistyll Rhaeder is one of our favourites.

Bala is also a famous for its water sports. The world renowned National White Water Centre is in Frongoch, Bala. Bala Adventure and Water Sports Centre and Bala Sailing Club are both based on Bala Lake (Llyn Tegid). There are also great opportunities for wild swimming in the local lakes and rivers. Indeed there is secluded lake just a ten minute walk up the hill from Ty Hen.

Bala

Ty Beic in the hamlet of Sarnau, 4 miles from the market town of Bala.

Bala has shops which offer local produce including an award winning butcher – T J Roberts. As well as traditional cuts of meat they have an expanding deli counter which offers a superb cheese selection as well as local fruit and veg. Bala also has a Co-Op supermarket, Spar and a number of small, independent shops. It has six pubs, Indian, Chinese and Italian restaurants and Fish and Chip, Kebab and Pizza takeaways. There are also numerous cafes including the Gorwellion which opens on Friday for evening meals. The owners of the Gorwellion also run Careau Uchaf cafe and gardens in Sarnau, a 10 minute walk away from Ty Hen. Slightly further away (5 miles) is Tyddyn Llan, a Michelin starred restaurant in Llandrillo, and for spectacular views as well as delicious food we would recommend the Lake Vyrnwy Hotel (10 miles away). Our 'local' is the Bryntirion Inn, 3 miles away in the village of Llandderfel. Its very friendly with great beer and good food.

“Great location, views and service.”

Reviewed 7 Apr 2016

Accommodation had a clean, modern feel and was very well equipped. It was easy to find and central to local visitor attractions. Service was excellent and Karen was very helpful.

“Lovely comfortable cottage in a stunning location.”

Reviewed 3 Jan 2016

We had a lovely time in this property. It was impeccably clean, very comfortable, and nice and warm (important as we weren't very lucky with the weather!), and well-equipped with a good selection of DVDs and books as well as lots of kitchen equipment. The cottage is well-situated for walking and also for sight seeing. The owners were very friendly and there are lots of helpful recommendations in the cottage for activities in the local area. We would be very happy to come back!

Owner's reply: Thanks for your lovely review Katharine. You are welcome back anytime.

“Spectacular property that I can not recommend highly enough!”

Reviewed 16 Nov 2015

We stayed in the barn for a long weekend and it was spectacular. It had everything that we need and our hosts were very great to deal with. Very clean, tidy, well appointed and comfortable.

Owner's reply: Thanks for your review, we're pleased you had a good time.

“Lived up to expectations”

Reviewed 9 Nov 2015

We found Ty Beic to be very comfortable, very clean, well equipped (including for cyclist/MTBers, as per the name!), warm, tastefully renovated with a lot of attention to details and a very high finish throughout. The woodwork done by Richard was a joy to look at! It's a very quiet, rural location with fantastic views, and facing South. As no-one was booked in on the day we left, Karen extended our departure time which made for a nice relaxing day.

Owner's reply: Thanks for the review and glad your enjoyed your stay. Hope to see you again soon.

“Beautiful cottage in beautiful surroundings”

Reviewed 21 Sep 2015

We stayed the weekend in this lovely converted stone barn. The work done to it is really excellent and all facilities were as good, if not better than we could have expected. Kitchen is very well kitted out and, like the bathroom, is very clean and tidy. A very large, very comfortable bed all added up to complete relaxation. There is a great selection of books and DVDs available and plenty of information on the surrounding area, in particular for walking and cycling. Karen and Richard were extremely welcoming and gave us great advice on what to do and provided a map and explanation of a wonderful walk and climb to the summit of Cadair Berwyn which was a fantastic day out. The area is spectacular with beautiful scenery on all sides. The town of Bala is a few minutes away with all amenities but not at all touristy or busy. The main tourist areas of Snowdonia are close at hand as well. We are already looking forward to a return trip.

Owner's reply: Thanks so much for your review. We're so glad you had a good time and look forward to welcoming back.

“Stunning home from home - can't wait to go back!”

Reviewed 8 Sep 2015

Perfect base for a weekend (or preferably longer!) surrounded by beautiful scenery and a very good range of outdoor activities nearby including a variety of good walks straight from the cottage. The accommodation was a modern, cosy, wonderfully converted barn made all the better by friendly hosts and Jac the dog. We will certainly be returning!

Owner's reply: Many thanks for your review. Hope you can stay for longer next time.
