Description from owner

Description

Welcome to 'The Old End' in the peaceful village of Sheldon, three miles from Bakewell, Derbyshire in the heart of the stunning Peak District National Park.

'The Old End' is a two bedroom character cottage and is believed to be the oldest standing building in Sheldon - a building resembling the current footprint is shown on the Senior Map of 1617 and it is thought that the window on the gable end predates this. It has many original features, sympathetically restored but with modern amenities including under-floor heating, log burning stove and a downstairs toilet. Walks into the countryside from your doorstep and with a pub just up the road serving delicious food - who could ask for more?

Please be aware that the property has varying levels and that the double bedroom has a quirky, low entry access which we have tried to show on the photos.

In the bathroom upstairs there is a bath with electric shower above the bath.

The two single beds are 3' wide.

Towels and bed linen are provided and an initial supply of basic items such as logs, toilet roll, dishwasher tablets, salt & pepper. Free WiFi (recently upgraded).

It has off road parking for two cars and its own garden at the front with views towards the village and surrounding countryside.

Nearest supermarket 3 miles away in Bakewell.

Booking notes:

We can not accept children under 5 years of age due to the varying levels.

PLEASE CONTACT US PRIOR TO BOOKING WITH REGARD PETS.

Minimum charge of £200 per stay.

Should you have any questions or wish to stay for only 2 nights please 'Contact the owner' and we will try to accommodate.

Thank you

“Lovely stay in the Peak District”

Reviewed 19 Apr 2021

Really nice few days away in a really quiet village. Excellent host and really great house with nice garden space out front. We are a family of four and had plenty of space at the oldest house in the village! Loads of things to do in the area and some nice local walks. I would definitely recommend this for something different and relaxing.

Owner's reply: Thank you so much for taking the time to review. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay and look forward to you returning again.

“Cosy character cottage in a great location”

Reviewed 2 Nov 2020

We stayed at The Old End, Sheldon over half term and loved it. It is a character house with real charm, warm and welcoming. The house is very pet friendly and dogs are well catered for. It is in a small village with great walks form the door and a lovely local pub with very good, simple food. Rosemary was very helpful and always quick to respond. It is in a great location for visiting Buxton, Bakewell and the Peaks

Owner's reply: Thank you for your lovely review we are really pleased that you enjoyed your stay at The Old End, we hope that you can return again soon

“Perfect Easter stay”

Reviewed 22 Apr 2019

The cottage was in a great location in a small but perfectly formed quiet village, just a stones throw from Bakewell. The weather was superb which meant we could get out and about and sit in the garden to relax after a day walking. We walked part of the Monsal Trail and visited the Magpie mine. Both are great and worth a visit. The cottage itself was beautiful, clean and bigger than expected. We love the Peak District and visit every year, so will hopefully return to the Old End one day.

Owner's reply: So pleased that you enjoyed your stay in our characterful cottage and the local countryside. Look forward to a visit again when next in this area of the Peak District. Thank you for your feedback
