The Tuscany region
Enjoy beautiful walks, bicycle or horse rides on the hills around our properties, full of churches and Roman parishes. Nearby, Borgo a Mozzano and the Maddalena bridge, better known as the Devil’s bridge, the little canyon Orrido di Botri, the Garfagnana villages, Barga with its typical historical centre, Coreglia Antelminelli and its Museum of Plaster Figures and Emigration are just a few of the places worth a visit. Our neighbour horse ranch offers horse rides in the area.
For our bravest guests: kayak, canyoning, rafting (from September to June), excursions on rubberafts (mid June to mid September) in order to meet local flora and fauna. Lucca (25 km), Pisa (50km) and the close Tyrrhenian coast, (or Versilia-Viareggio beaches, 40km) offer further opportunities for food, culture and activity! Closest airports: Pisa (PSA; 50 km) or Florence (FLR; 85 km). Clostest train station: Bagni di Lucca/Fornoli (10 km). Daily bus service from Guzzano (our village) to Lucca (about 30 min. drive).
Bagni Di Lucca
Whether you’re after adventure or seeking a serene sojourn, you’ll find something to suit you here. The beautiful countryside offers you every opportunity to sit under a tree and read a book, and equally to walk through the forest in search of cool air. Bagni Di Lucca presents a welcoming starting point to your Tuscan exploration, and the larger neighbouring towns offer an exciting chance to study the impressive architecture and lively culture of the region. There are a range of outdoor sports and activities to take part in nearby, such as horse riding, canoeing and skiing.
Guzzano (our hamlet) is a tiny little village perched on a hill around Bagni di Lucca. At the beginning of the XX century a lot of its inhabitants sought their fortune abroad. Most of their grandchildren still live outside Italy but come back here for holidays once in a while. Some English tourists bought a house in our village, following up a long tradition which dates back to the XIX century, when English poets or artists like the Brownings were literally enraptured with our surroundings.
Closest family run grocery store is at 2 km from us. They sell fresh bread and delicious "schiacciata" (flat bread) every day. Chez our neighbor farmers you can purchase eggs and seasonal vegetables (such as tomatoes, salad...).
Bagni di Lucca (at 5 km from our village), is a nice tourist resort, where you will find general stores, shops and sport centers (public swimming pool, tennis courts, chemist, supermarkets, etc.) and a beautiful spa, beloved destination of artists like Byron, Shelley, Puccini, Metternich and Radestsky. Traces of this glorious past are to be found in its monuments: the English Church, the Catene bridge, the Spa, the villas, the Casino (the first gambling house to be opened in Europe and nowadays a wonderful location for wedding receptions). The town provides some very good restaurants, where you can taste our traditional cuisine.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Ceasa al 3. We mainly ate in and found the local supermarket excellent. We did venture to a much larger supermarket in Lucca which had lots more choice. We used the pizza oven or BBQ daily as it was a novelty and the boys enjoyed making a fire. We had one small problem of needing a rolling pin to make pizza as we are not fully trained in the Italian way. There was not one in the kitchen so we had to buy one. We took it home with us as a souvenir so the kitchen is still short of rolling pin. The views around the property were beautiful. There were lots of marked trails for walks and bikes. We loved that we were close to local people and they were all very friendly including the dog next door. The pool area was a short walk from the property. We had exclusive use of the area as there were no other guests at the properties that shared this area. It was very clean and had lovely views. The beds were very high and there were beams in the top floor bedroom that you had to watch when you got into bed. There was internet available at an additional charge. I would visit again and bring more family to stay in the other properties available.
