Ristorante Buca di Baldabo is the favourite with locals and

unsuspecting visitors. The food is traditional and sensational, the

decoration basic but in true Italian style, it is the food, the staff and

friends that are all important for a great night out. We shared a

platter of tagliatelle with wild boar sauce, followed by a shared

platter of Ravioli filled with sweet pumpkin, followed by Boar

Antiqua (boar ribs cooked in the old method). Then we managed to

back up for fig and walnut tart, tiramisu or apple tart with custard.

All absolutely delicious. Thank you smiling Luisa for waiting on us and

imbuing our evening with local knowledge.

Grahame visited a friend three years ago who had settled there years

before and who let him know when this house came up for sale. It

takes some courage and energy to tackle a 500 year old house with

no heating, just an open fire, no plumbing as we know it and virtually

no kitchen or bathroom. Not deterred and many flights later back

and forth from Sydney, the house is now a testament to his

determination and passion for the old; to restore and bring new life

to a building of extraordinary beauty set in a breathtaking

environment.

Location description from owner

The Tuscany region

Vico Pancellorum is situated in the wooded country of the Appenines, north of Lucca, near the celebrated thermal resort of Bagni di Lucca, much visited by Byron, Shelley, the Barrett-Brownings, Heinrich Heine and other literary figures and 30 mins from the Abatone Ski Resort. Vico Pancellorum is fortunate in modern times to be the home of the renowned restaurant, the Buca di Baldabò, where exquisite meals may be enjoyed at modest prices. The restaurant is about a 5 minute walk from the house, along the narrow cobbled streets. Day trips may easily be made to Pisa, Florence, Bologna and the walled City of Lucca with its designer shops, monthly antique market, wonderful Piazzas and many fine restaurants, bars & cafes to wet the appetite, not to mention Cinque Terre, Barga and the beaches at Viareggio. Bagni di Lucca (about 20 minutes away) provides all local shopping.
