The East Anglia region
Norfolk is one of the least populated counties in East Anglia and is probably one of the most varied i n terms of what it has to offer! From unspoilt and traditional seaside resorts to lively and bustling resorts, from messing about on the Norfolk broads to boat trips from Blakeney Point to see the seals, it really does have something for everyone.
There are some fabulous coastal walks as well as plenty of inland walking routes, the famous Sherringham steam railway and many historic houses , parks and grades.
A visit to Norfolk would not be complete without visiting the historic city of Norwich with its famous cathedral, castle and vibrant market.
For a traditional beach holiday you could quite easily not leave Bacton, however there some fabulous beaches nearby such as Mundesley and of course the traditional seaside resort of Cromer with its famous theatre at the end of the Pier.
Bacton Woods on the outskirts of the village offer some lovely walks of different levels and also has picnic facilities. Should you be thinking of bringing your bikes on holiday Bacton and the surrounding areas are famous for their"quiet lanes " where cyclists have priority!
Nearby Happisburgh has a famous lighthouse which is open to the public on certain days of the year.
Wroxham (the heart of the Norfolk Broads) is approximately 20 minutes by car and from there you can hire a boat or take one of the many guided boat tours along the Broads. Close to Wroxham is Bewilderwood - a great tree top adventure for children, and also Wroxham Barns which houses a farm park. Golf is available at Mundesley golf club (approx 15 minute drive).

"QUIET AND RELAXING... WITH GREAT SEA VIEWS"
Rutland Retreat, is a well equipped holiday letting. With all the amenities you would expect. It has great views of the sea, which is only a stones throw away from the patio door. The bedrooms are a little snug. but are perfectly adequate. The only fault we found, was the shower unit, in the double bedroom en-suite, at it's hottest setting, was producing only tepid water for showering in. Luckily the twin bedroom also has an en-suite shower, so we were able to make use of that. A large wall mounted HD TV, was very welcome. As my eyesight is, not so good these days. there are games, for the kids to play with. A stereo CD player. Painting equipment. As well as a pair of binoculars, for looking out to sea, or bird watching. The sound of the waves rolling in, can be very relaxing too. There are local shops, very close to the property. As well as great places to eat. The local pub "The Poachers Pocket" serves great food, and their Sunday carvery, is delicious, with large portions, for a very reasonable £6.95 If your hungry, give it a try. It's good quality produce, the friendly staff are very helpful. One offered to carry my plate for me, as they could see, i used walking sticks. If you feel like, the more traditional seaside "fish and chips" our favourite, was the "Bacton Chip Shop" where a large Haddock, large Chips, and Peas, cost around £7.00 there are other places to eat, and shop, a little further away. But no longer than a short drive, 2-3 Miles. All in all, this holiday, was one of the most relaxing, and peaceful we have had. I would recommend this holiday letting to all.

"Seriously didn't want to leave!"
A wonderful holiday! Travelled with 89yr old Mum with limited mobility and we both loved every minute! Views were spectacular (beach by day, thousands of stars by night) and there was plenty to see and do in the area. And if you don't want to cook there's a good choice of pub food within a few minutes drive plus a couple of take-aways. The bungalow was cosy, well-fitted and warm (once we sussed out the heating with the very helpful owner!) and in a lovely position. As well as all the necessary basics it had so much more, including great binoculars, perfect for watching passing sea traffic and wildlife. A truly lovely and relaxing holiday!

"Great location, very well equipped and comfortable"
Lovely quiet location with sea views. Cottage was very well equipped with everything you would need for your holiday. The pictures don't really do it justice. Shop within walking distance and don't be put off by the proximity of the gas terminal - you can't see it from the cottage. Beach couldn't have been closer and was really quiet - we almost had it to ourselves at times.

I arrived at Rutland retreat and was pleasantly suprised by how spacious and well equiped it was. The selection of books and games and finding little things like the binolculars and magnifying glass kept my five year old son very amused! The house has everything needed for a wonderful holiday by the beach, which is a few minutes walk away. My favourite moments were after dinner when myself and the children snuggled together on the cosy recliner chair and watched the tide coming in listening to the waves crashing against the wall and seeing the spray. Treasured memories...thankyou for a wonderful week, we will definitely come again next year!!
So pleased you had a lovely time and thank you for the review!
