Mill Cottage, a converted Mill in the heart of Devon's beautiful South Hams, offers single -storey accommodation for 2 people + dogs (children 13 years and over). It is situated in the valley of the Devon River Avon, on the outskirts of the village of Aveton Gifford, four miles from Kingsbridge. The cottage has its own south-facing sun terrace overlooking the mill pond and stream.
Marsh Mills is a small farm with friendly animals. We have beautiful, peaceful and secluded gardens and an orchard with a duck pond, which you are welcome to share whilst holidaying in the cottage. You may even be lucky enough to spot a kingfisher or an otter!
The village, with village pub., village green, shop, tennis courts and Church, is a short walk away, as is the tidal road along the river, a haven for wildlife, particularly sea birds. Beautiful sandy beaches at Bantham and Bigbury-on-Sea are only four and a half miles away, with access to the famous South West Coastal Paths. From Bigbury-on-Sea you can cross the causeway (at low tide) to Burgh Island - there is a sea-tractor to bring you back, if you stay too long on the island!
The area is a walkers' paradise, with several local walks, including the Avon Estuary Walk, directly accessible from Marsh Mills - leave the car at home. Plymouth is seventeen miles to the west, Salcombe only seven miles away, spend a day in Totnes or Dartmouth, or access Dartmoor in half an hour. Accommodation comprises bedroom with double and single beds, en-suite bathroom with separate WC and washbasin. There is a large fitted kitchen with electric cooker, microwave, fridge. and freezer.
Lounge/dining room with sat. TV, Video player. All linens provided. Heating by electric storage heaters, with an additional electric fire in the lounge, and is included in the rental price. Off road car parking immediately outside the cottage.

The Devon region
We are situated in the South Hams region of Devon, in the South West of England. Devon and Cornwall have the mildest climate in the United Kingdom, and Devon is a rural, green, beautiful county.
The South Hams (meaning South Hills) is a particularly beautiful area, with everything from spectacular countryside to fantastic beaches. It is a walkers' paradise, and most of the beaches are accessible via the famous South West Coastal Path. Dartmoor, just north of the South Hams, is most definitely worth at least one visit during your stay.
Many National Trust owned properties are easily accessible by car, and there are national trust car parks giving walkers easy access to the Coastal Path.
The Eden Project, in Cornwall, is only an hour and a half away from Mill Cottage, and is well worth a visit.
Kingsbridge is a picturesque market town at the head of the Salcome Estaury. There is a small weekly market and twice a month the Farmers' Market takes place in the Market Square.
We have a Sports Centre with a swimming pool in the town, 2 public parks, some interesting shops, a cinema and a rural life museum. The town has a bus service connecting to Plymouth, Totnes, Dartmouth, Exeter, Salcombe, and Mill Cottage is near to one of these routes, running from Plymouth via Kingsbridge to Dartmouth, along the famous Slapton Line, with its beautiful beaches and freshwater Ley.
Mill Cottage is four and a half miles from Kingsbridge, and another small town, Modbury, is equidistant in the Plymouth direction.
Salcombe, only seven miles, is an ideal boating and sailing centre.

"Delightful peaceful cottage"
We booked last minute and slotted into the only week available, it was fully booked and with good reason. The owner Maggie was welcoming and nothing was too much trouble, even lending us her personal canoe to use (sans dog). The cottage was clean, functional and set next to the river with the sound of running water sending us to sleep each night. Despite being an exceptionally hot week week, the cottage with its 2ft thick walls always remained comfortable. There is a local dog friendly pub serving food and cream teas a couple of minutes along the lane, also a community run local shop which I recommend using. There are some great walks and cycle rides all around, I was also offered the use of one of the many outhouses to store my mountain bike. All three of us had a fantastic time, Maggie being a font of local knowledge sent us to some of the best beaches just a short drive away, the only regret was that it wasn't two weeks.

"This cottage is a superb base from which you can have a wonderful holiday."
This quiet peaceful cottage is a little gem, situated within easy reach of a number of interesting N.T. properties and an easy ride to the sea, also Ideal for local country walks. The cottage itself is very well equipped and the hosts very informative and helpful with local knowledge and places to visit. We have already booked up for next year as we were so impressed.
