“Very convenient for visiting the beaches and towns of the Pas de Calais.”

Reviewed 22 Jul 2013

The gite was very conveniently positioned in a rural area within an hour's drive of coastal resorts such as Le Crotoy, Berck and St Valery on the Somme. Equally it was an easy drive to some of the larger towns of the area, such as Abbeville and Arras as well as WW1 battlefields and cemeteries. Montreuil was well worth a visit, with its fortifications and old buildings. This is where part of Les Miserables was filmed. The gite itself was furnished simply, the cooker had seen better days and some of the kitchen equipment needed replacing. We found the bed, did had a 'dip' in the centre of the mattress, which took a bit of adjusting to. Also the sofa was not very comfortable, although we didn't use it a great deal as we were always out all day. We were delighted to find that the shower was reliable and the water hot when we needed it. We were more than pleased to find that there was Wifi which was more reliable than the TV, which lost the signal most of the time. The gite was situated between two smaller towns, Auxi le chateau and Frevent, which both have supermarkets for most needs as well as a selection of smaller shops.

Many thanks for the feedback, which we really appreciate. We hope those looking to stay in Pas de Calais will see how conveniently located we are. We were really disappointed you couldn't get a signal on the TV and as soon as we found out, Keith went up onto the roof to readjust the dish which had moved following a storm. Noted re the mattress and sofa, which we have previously replaced but will look again at updating as a priority. We've put another mattress in for the time being and explained in the guestbook that the sofa cushions are feather and need a fresh plump up every day. Many thanks for staying with us. All the best Keith & Keran
