Description

The Domaine de Peyloubère is a 17th century 35-acre château estate located 6km south of Auch in the heart of Gascony, south-west France. Five self Catering cottages, all totally refurbished and re-equipped to a high standard of comfort and convenience, accommodate from two to eight people and Bed & Breakfast is offered in two suites of rooms in the Manoir. Peyloubère is classified as a 'Monument Historique' by virtue of the fact that it was the home of the Italian painter, Mario Cavaglieri for over forty years. Legacies of his ownership are the frescoed ceilings in many of the rooms of the Manoir, the graceful Italian garden and the relaxed, bohemian atmosphere of the Domaine. In Auch there is a permanent exhibition of over 100 of Cavaglieri's paintings – 'Cavaglieri et le Gers'.

During the high season bookings are from Saturday to Saturday but at other times we are able to be more flexible. A €300 discount is offered for reservations of two weeks or more during the high season and Couples benefit from a 25% discount on the published prices.

Toulouse airport is 55 minutes and the airports of Pau, Carcassonne and Bordeaux approximately 2 hours. There is a train service between Toulouse and Auch where the station is 15 minutes from Peyloubère.

'Giulietta'

Named after the adored wife of Mario Cavaglieri, 'Giulietta' is a charming, spacious cottage on two floors suitable for up to six people.

The shady walled garden and terrace is ideal for barbecues or private sunbathing and is enclosed to provide a secure play area for young children. Babies and young children are welcomed and cots, high chairs and toy chests are provided at no charge. From the garden, wide french windows lead into the modern kitchen where the oven, hob, work surface and storage cupboards are housed in a central island unit and a wooden staircase leads up to the first floor. Wide steps lead down from the kitchen into the comfortable living room where exposed stone walls, rustic beams and the iron manger are evidence of its previous use.

On the first floor there are three large bedrooms, two with twin beds and the master bedroom with a 150cm double bed, ensuite shower room and external stone stairway and balcony facing the evening sunset. There is a separate family bathroom and useful storage cupboard.

Each cottage has its own garden with sun loungers, barbeque and dining area and they are arranged at differing angles to maintain privacy. The cottages are fully centrally heated and available to let throughout the year, two with wood burning stoves making them favourites during winter months.

The Estate

The Estate is equipped with families in mind. The heated swimming pool and surrounding paved area is enclosed by a fence and two self-closing gates. There is table tennis in a covered area alongside the pool and badminton and a football lawn, also ideal for cricket and other team games. Guests are free to fish the lake and river and to enjoy the woodland and gardens for peaceful walks, bird watching and wild flower collecting. Each cottage has a library of books and there is a central library, collection of games, DVDs and information about things to do and see in the area.

Things to do and see

Auch offers two weekly markets, cafés, restaurants, concerts and music and cinema festivals. Within 15 minutes you will find golf, horse riding, a karting track, paintball and tree-top acrobatic forest with walking and cycling tracks crossing the estate.

For those who wish to explore further afield, there are historic buildings, Armagnac châteaux, medieval villages and fortified towns too numerous to mention. The great mountains of the Pyrénées are less than an hour's drive away, as are the towns of Pau, Condom, Albi, Lourdes, Toulouse and many more.

A wide variety of special events take place in the Gers during the summer months including music festivals 'Jazz in Marciac' and 'Tempo Latino' and the Festival of the Voice in Auch. There are also antiques and medieval fairs; horse race meetings; a Casino; day and night markets - to name just a small selection.
