A large party need somewhere to chill out. This is no problem: various terraces, little romantic hideaways (hidden from other guests) can all be found around the garden, you cannot beat Tal Hamsa.

Tal Hamsa, & the Pink House, perched on a steep hill side half way between the busy tourist port and the genuinely Greek old town of Volimes, not only have spectacular sea views but generally benefit from a refreshing breeze. This, with the combination of balconies, terraces and shaded hideaways makes it easier to escape from the intense heat of high Summer. All bedrooms have air-conditioning. For the sun lovers there are masses of sun beds on the large deck area around the pool and other secluded spots elsewhere..

On the other hand, the large living room with the fireplace provide a perfect refuge for the cooler nights of early Summer & Autumn. This is the season for the energetic who wish to play table tennis under a very old olive tree or tennis. Our astro-turf court is a three minute walk from Tal Hamsa, cutting up the hill through the garden; but it is easier to drive there with an ice box of cold drinks!

Tal Hamsa rented when rented with the Pink House allows teenagers to chill with their favourite music in the pool terrace two bedrooms, grand parents can escape to the Pink House, mothers & toddlers to enjoy the sun or shade while their young are safe in the crèche. It is also possible to enjoy at a safe distance watching family life around the pool from the balcony of Tal Hamsa's master bedroom! For walkers this area is a paradise, especially in Spring with an enormous variety of flowers and at all times you are surrounded by magnificent ever changing views.

The Port of Aghios Nikolas is seven or eight minutes away. From the villas, you drive down the hill to the coast road (about 6 minutes) and turn left (north) for two minutes. This typically small port is where the ferry from Kefalonia arrives and returns daily and from where you can get boat trips to the famous ship wreck and/or the blue caves! Here you will find the small super market with its cafe overlooking the port, a tourist shop, tavernas, an hotel, filling station and a beach with free sun beds at the far end of which there is a fantastically located waterside taverna which extends with tables actually on the beach.

This beach side taverna and the supermarket are run by the Greek management team who look after our villas - so not only will they offer you a 10% discount at the shop but they are wonderfully helpful and will do there best to get anything you want from Zakynthos town for the following day, including meat and fish as they receive daily deliveries . But the croissants are baked on the spot! They have their own boat trips & give our guests VIP treatment.

Taking the coast road in the other direction (ten minutes from the villa), after passing a few tavernas, there is a long beach, Makri Gialos with the usual umbrellas and pedalos. Very much worth a visit three minutes before the Makri Gialos is the tiny port of Micro Nisi (means small island). Here, opposite the small island there is a typically Greek family run charming taverna which overlooks the small boats and has its own tiny little beach from where you can swim and have a refreshing shower before lunch!

A little further on there is a restaurant run by the English wife of a larger than life local character who rents out small boats with or without a driver (ICC licence needed) and is very friendly and speaks perfect English. But all the local people are extremely welcoming and helpful, especially in the tavernas and you should try them all!

Both villas can be rented individually. Please check:

Location description from owner

The Ionian Islands region

The island of Zakynthos claims to have more sun than any other Greek island, and yet thanks to the winter rain, this island once called "The Wooded Island" by Homer, is far from arid. While the South of the island is flat and much more developed, the north is rural with striking mountains and sweet smelling pine forests. Lower down the rolling hills, with their fields of wild thyme & rosemary, drop dramatically into the Ionian Sea. Northern Zakynthos, with its abundance of olive groves, epitomises the charming and laid back style of Greek rural living and you are likely to see goats balancing half way up an olive tree.

Unspoilt family run tavernas with their shaded terraces welcome guests and offer fresh barbecued fish which may easily have been caught by the man sitting at the table next door. Everyone is amazingly friendly. There is also a strongly religious and artistic side to the Zakynthians. The local churches and monasteries, complete with exquisite carving and gold-embellished icons are well worth a visit. Zakynthos town has an interesting museum, shaded colonnades and an excellent fish restaurant. Shopping is great and the large town square is lined with tavernas and coffee houses (delicious freshly squeezed orange juice).

Askos

From Micro Nisi and Aghios Nicolas, you can rent a boat to explore little coves & beaches, water ski, snorkle in azure clear water. For young children wishing to bucket & spade Alikes & Alikanas (25 min away) offer long sandy beaches, all the usual beach attractions, (windsurfers, pedalos, etc) and endless tavernas leading right down to the sea.

There are several scuba diving centres on the island. You can enjoy the marine life with a glass bottomed boat or visit the famous Shipwreck Bay from the sea which is equally dramatic to look down on from the top of the cliffs!

Nearby is the hill town of Volimes, the centre of the island's weaving industry and where charming local pottery, and other quality souvenirs can be bought at reasonable prices. Beware if in Volimes for Greek Easter, the locals love to set off fire crackers as they wander in and out of church!

The Fish Festival is a great celebration at the end of August with the islanders coming to Aghios Nicolas where they eat and dance till the early hours. Although plate throwing has now been banned in Greece, every week the L' Astoria Restaurant, located right on the beach of Aghios Nicolas, has its a Greek Evening with local dancers and hundreds of white paper napkins are thrown instead of plates - this is a great event for all ages.

Sophia's Art Cafe is another quirky meeting place with surprisingly delicious Greek wines. A lovely garden terrace overlooks the sea where you can enjoy genuine Greek gastronomic tapas. Inside, you can see Sophia's own works of art which include life size papier mâché statues, exotic jewellery, and highly original paintings most of which are for sale.

House rules

We write No Pets.
We make exceptions for wee behaved dogs.

Well behaved dogs are welcome but it must be taken into consideration that our gardens are not securely fenced in and there are in all our villas roads that are dangerous - so only dogs that will not stray. We have stray cats which can lead dogs into danger.
