The Devon region
There is a wealth of beautiful places to visit in Devon and the lively little town of Ashburton, gateway to Dartmoor, is the ideal place to stay. Known for its many fascinating antique outlets, shops, cafes and bars, Ashburton is one of only four stannary (ancient tin trading as early as 1285 AD) towns in Devon.
Maintaining its historic roots, traditional ceremonies are retained - Ale Tasting, Breading Weighing and Mediaeval Fayre in July. The ancient office of Portreeve is still held (the only one how held by Act of Parliament in England). Ashburton Carnival in July - 10 days of events culminating in a grand procession of floats through town - dates back over 100 years. The renowned Ashburton Blues Festival in June and Ashburton Food & Drink Festival in September are among the many annual events which take place in this lively and historic little town.
Nearby facilites include: local outdoor heated swimming pool (Summer only) 1 minute away; local tennis club (all year) welcomes non=members; very reasonably priced holistic massage and other treatments in rooms upstairs at Cafe Green Ginger 1 minute away; wonderful local produce available at Tuckers farmers market (Mon-Sat), Artisan Bakery, Dartmoor Butchers, Delicatessen and Fish Deli. The internationally acclaimed Ashburton Cookery School has its top quality restaurant, the Agaric, in the centre of town also.
Exercise without exhaustion and explore Dartmoor with an electric bike. Hire from Highdart, based in Ashburton.
Golf at Stover, Newton Abbot, set in 200 acres of mature and scenic parkland and water, is close to the A38 and less than 10 mins drive away. Visitors welcome.
We are situated on the edge of Dartmoor yet 25 minutes away from the coastal resorts of Teignmouth and Torbay - the English Riviera - and 40 minutes from the beautiful unspoilt beaches and coves of South Devon.

"Great Place to Stay"
We have just stayed at The Coach House, Whistley Hall, Ashburton for a long weekend whilst I was at Ashburton Cookery School, Jenny & Steve were great hosts and have done a fantastic job converting the Coach House. It was spotlessly clean and is a great set up with really good cooking facilities. A big plus in Ashburton was the car parking and being centrally located there was no need to use the car locally. The Coach House is maintained and decorated throughout to a high standard with plenty of room to relax. We will certainly return when in the area again

"Perfect Birthday Weekend"
We were looking for a cottage with character, that was ideal for couples, and in a location that was secluded in the countryside but close enough to do things so we didn't have to drive anywhere if we didn't want to - and we were certainly not dissapointed as The Coach House ticked every box! We really loved everything about both the Coach House and Asburton - beautiful village with lovely views of the moor with multiple pubs and restaurants within a 2 minute walk Thanks again Jen - we will be back :)

"Alice in wonderland"
It was mine and friends first trip to Devon, jen and Steve were such a beautifull welcome making us feel at home before we even entered the guest house. Wow , what a guest house I want to keep it a secret so I won't tell you how utterly beautiful, spacious, and equipped the place was, value for money, say no more , after long walks on the moors and the odd couple of pints it was the perfect retreat, a secret don't tell any one!!! , we can't wait to return 10/10

"A stunning and cosy property in a lovely village"
This is a beautiful place to stay - a mixture of old features and contemporary decor and appliances. The living area is very comfortable, the bedroom cosy and the kitchen and bathroom modern and exactly what you need to have an enjoyable stay. Owned by a lovely couple who live next door and are happy to help with anything you need. Ideal for couples/friends and possibly with one child if you provide a cot/matress for them. The property is situated in Ashburton, a village that has everything you need including a Co-op, pubs, bakery, butchers, takeaways and gift shops. The perfect retreat after a day exploring Devon.
