Description

Welcome to our relaxing self-catering cottage, with private pool and guest garden, in Arronches, Portugal. On arrival you will receive a complimentary pack of eggs, fresh bread, bottled water,and bottle of Alentejo wine. We have Olive Oil, Marmalade made from our own olives and oranges plus extra eggs should you wish to buy. Please help your self to any fruit - figs, apples ,pears,grapes, pomegranates and nespros.

This is set in 2 hectares of land bordered by the River Caia. Numerous fruit and olive trees with an abundance of wildlife. This area is known as the Alentejo; a hot dry area of Portugal with fields of cattle, wild flowers, cork trees and grape vines. In the field are chickens, and the donkey Luigi, Molly and Madge the 2 tame sheep and family dog.

Just 1 km away is a sports centre with tennis courts, football pitch,baseball pitch and jacuzzi. In Badajoz the nearest Spanish town 20 mins away there is a water park with flumes for that family day out.

Welcome pack on arrival with our fresh eggs, bread, butter, bottled water, fruit and local wine.

Booking in on day of holiday is anytime after 2pm .Vacating time on departure day 11am.We do ask these times are stuck too unless prior arrangement.

Poolside towels are provided

Smokers -please smoke outside the cottage--ashtrays are provided to cut down the risk of fire.

2 extra single beds are possible in the cottage at £5 per person per night.

Also if anyone is driving from UK please could you tell us as we miss some things that if you did not mind-you

could bring out for us--such as salad cream and recent newspaper!

The cottage is detached and benefits from one king size bed and the other bedroom has one double ,2 more single beds can be added sleeping up to 6 persons at £5 per person per night.
All linen, towels and poolside towels are provided. Bedding/towels are changed weekly and cleaning of the cottage.Any extra bedding/towels can be provided please just ask. Hair dryer and straighteners provided.
A lounge with seating for 6 persons, a wood burning stove, TV, DVD player and CD player. The kitchen boasts all the usual facilities you would expect in a modern kitchen and there is also a wetroom bathroom.plus a poolside loo and shower.

******** We are happy to pick up and return Guests to and from Lisbon Airport for those Guests not wanting to hire a car --- by prior arrangement. Also an informal " Taxi Service" to and from local bars/restaurants can be arranged! ***********

The cottage has its own private guest garden overlooking the countryside and sole use of the swimming pool.
Garden tree hammock, sun brollies, tables and chairs at the front and back of guest house for private use. Also sun beds with soft covers and sun brollies at the poolside.

The Alentejo region

The River Caia, which inhabits much wildlife,is a short walk through the donkey's field.

Herons, kingfishers, crayfish, tree frogs can be seen at different times of the year with the possible sighting of otters playing on the riverbank.

The Bonelli eagles, Cattle Egrets from March, and the storks nesting are all a common sight.

Also been spotted is the colourful Hoopoe and for the lucky, the rare Black stork and as dusk settles, a small family of bats.

Praying mantis and salamanders are seen around the property in summer months.

Arronches

There are many bars and good restaurants in the village. To look out for is the "Prato de Dia"--dish of the day; where a 3 course meal can be had between 6 - 12 euros.

There are 2 supermarkets, cinema, 1 takeaway(Portuguese style) multibank, doctors surgery, various shops for knick-knacks, tourist information office and taxi service. Most bars open early morning and some stay open until 5am - almost around the clock. Arronches church, which is bathed in lilac, green and white lights at night, is a beautiful sight.

There are animals at the property but none near the cottage . There are 2 dog's belonging to the owner both well behaved and not on chains so if you dislike dog's-??
Please use outside solar shower before/after using the pool if you have any sunblock/creams/oils on.
Replace any breakage.
Shut all gates.
Supervise children at the property.
Use the pool at your own risk.

“Absolutely outstanding, everything we wished for and more.”

We were looking for a quite unspoilt location for our family holiday this year. We have always gone for locations that are quieter than the normal large hotels and beach bars. In La Carapeteira we found everything that we could have wished for. The cottage is perfect in every way, from the welcome pack of essentials, including local wine! to the accommodation. Both bedrooms are a very good size my wife and I had one bedroom and the other easily catered for our two lively children aged 8 and 13.Outside of the cottage are two patios and a barbecue. The pool is fantastic, and I will not forget lying on my sun lounger as a flock of chickens wander past closely followed by three peacocks! Neil and Stephanie, our hosts were the most welcoming and helpful owners that I have met. Nothing was too much trouble for them, they offered useful advice of where to go, where to eat and help with the local language and customs. Our children were very taken with the animals. It was such a benefit that Stephanie allowed the children to get actively involved in walking Louigi the donkey, rounding up the two very friendly sheep, Molly and Mabel and taking Noddy the dog for a walk. The nearest town of Arronches is a sort walk, about 25 minutes or an even shorter drive. The town has everything that you need from a supermarket to bars and and excellent restaurants especially Estalagem, which is meat eater paradise. The larger town of Portalegre is about a 20 minute drive away where there are many larger supermarkets. The surrounding area is completely unspoilt and when we were there, in the height of summer the beautiful towns and villages were easy to negotiate as I felt we were the only tourists. If you are looking for a wonderful, relaxing location, with superb hosts, great food, friendly animals then this is the place for you.
