Brackenthwaite is a special place, nestled as it is within the heart of the idyllic and picturesque Arnside and Silverdale AONB. The quiet family farm is surrounded by fields and woodlands, with beautiful views of the Lakeland hills. We are situated just outside the scenic Lancashire villages of The Yealands, towards the beautiful Cumbrian costal village of Arnside. Though we now no longer farm ourselves, there are still sheep and cows which graze our land. We also have free-range hens, ducks, geese and doves.

Our four comfortable self-catering holiday cottages, form part of an attractive 17th Century complex of limestone buildings, set around a large quad courtyard. With plenty of outdoor seating areas, you can while away the hours reading a good book or in summer simply watch the barn swallows swooping by. If you wish to stretch your legs a little and take in the view, there is a lovely private nature trail around the farm’s fields and woods.

We have been providing holiday accommodation at the farm since 1976, with many guests returning regularly and people coming from all over the world. We pride ourselves on providing a real “home-from-home” experience, where guests are welcomed like friends.

Annually inspected and graded by VisitEngland (3—4 Star),

Free ‘Hyperfast’ fibre Wi-Fi,

Bed linen provided (including towels),

Ample off-road parking,

Families with children welcome,

Cots and highchairs available on request,

Open all year.

Location description from owner

The England region

The area is a real hidden gem, often over looked for the busier, Lake District. It is a haven for walkers, with over 200 public footpaths in just 75 square kilometers. Bird and nature lovers will also not be disappointed, with Leighton Moss RSPB bird reserve and Gait Barrows National Nature Reserve on our doorstep. Brackenthwaite is situated directly on the south Cumbria and north Lancashire county borders, mid way between Kendal and Lancaster. The coast is only three miles away at both Arnside and Silverdale. From our doorstep there are wonderful opportunities for both walking and cycling. We are located on the National Cycle Network and there are opportunities for off-road mountain biking. Fishing, horse riding and golf are also near by.

Arnside

Brackenthwaite a special place, nestled within the heart of the idyllic and picturesque Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). We are surrounded by fields and woodland, situated outside the historic village of Yealand Redmayne and towards the coastal village of Arnside. On clear days there are beautiful views of the Lakeland hills, Arnside Knott and Farleton Fell.

From our doorstep there are wonderful opportunities for both walking and cycling. We are located on the National Cycle Network and there are opportunities for off-road mountain biking. Fishing, horse riding and golf are also near by. Leighton Moss RSPB Nature Reserve and Gait Barrows National Nature Reserve (which was originally part of Brackenthwaite Farm) are within two miles.

The area has been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) due, in part, to the large areas of limestone pavement, limestone walls, local historic lime kilns and diverse flora and fauna.

In addition to the immediate attractions, the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks, the Forest of Bowland AONB and Morecambe Bay are all easily accessible.

There are several places to eat out in the immediate area and the nearest pubs are two miles away at Beetham and Hale. Leisure facilities (including pool, steam room, gym, children's soft play area and restaurant/bar) are available within 1.5 miles.
