Location description from owner

The Province of Leinster region

Arklow is an active town - in fact it was, in its day, one of the busiest ports in Ireland and a renowned centre for boat building and sea fishing as well as having a fine tradition in the pottery industry.

Situated on the River Avoca, the N11 road and the Dublin/Rosslare rail line, Arklow is an excellent base for exploring County Wicklow and neighbouring counties. The town is a good base from which to explore the Vale of Avoca to the east and the glorious sandy beaches of Brittas Bay to the north. The beautiful Clogga Beach is situated about 6.5km by road south of Arklow Town.

Arklow has an attractive main street with ornate lighting and a charming riverside walk. The fishing village character is still evident in an area called ”The Fisheries” and the port still boasts a sizeable fleet of fishing boats. The imposing St Saviours’ Church, impressively floodlit at night, dominates the high ground of the town. Markets, cafes and festivals take place celebrating music, sport, wildlife and poetry.

“Nice House, Fabulous Location”

Reviewed 17 Mar 2013

We found this house perfect for our needs and had a fab holiday. The townspeople are lovely and we were within walking distance of the homely pubs and restaurants. The best thing was our proximity to some wonderful sites - we simply had to visit "Glendalough" a second time even! The owner (manager?) was also extremely helpful with her advice as to where to visit daytime and the best pubs and restaurants to go at night.

Owner's reply: How nice of you to let us know how much you enjoyed your stay - glad you enjoyed the good food and the famous local hospitality!
