The Limousin region
Situated in the South West of France, Argentat is a picturesque market town in the Correze which is a department in The Limousin.
The Dordogne river runs through the area with its lush green valleys and woodland. The area set in the Massif Central is unique for its architectural beauty with buildings and castles set in some of the most beautiful scenery in France. The region enjoys warm summers without the baking heat of areas further south. Winters are much colder with good ski resorts in the Cantal mountains, easily accessible by train or car. At Argentat the Dordogne river has been dammed to create lakes producing hydroelectricity and further up the river there is a series of about thirteen large picturesque dams in wooded countryside.
The area is totally unspoilt and is fortunate in having such natural beauty combines with unique stone houses, churches and chateaux. There are very good restaurants in the area giving superb quality food at reasonable prices. The wild life is quite exciting due to the ideal habitat, there are lots of birds and butterflies and animals. As many as 20 red & black kites have been seen flying above the house at one time. There are several local markets and supermarkets.
