Including dry, sun baked gravel, water and marginal planting, woodland, shady, heavy clay and alpine planting and now include the Gravel Garden, Woodland Garden, Water Garden, Long Shady Walk, Reservoir Garden and Scree Garden. It was the development of these sites that prompted Beth Chatto to write books on gardening with what could be considered as "problem areas" using plants that nature has developed to survive in differing conditions.

"Large and Peaceful"
I have stayed in a few cottages over the years but this one was cavernous!! This much space I could do with at home!! What a great location tucked away in the country but less than 10 mins to centre of Colchester. So quiet and peaceful (and dark) at night. Three bedrooms all with own facilities made getting ready as a family for a wedding sooo much easier.Nice kitchen and diner all well located and what a great log fire!! Would definately stay here again. Well done.
Thank you for your positive feedback and glad you enjoyed your stay. Our property definitely offers plenty of living space both indoors and outside. Our property is tucked away from the heart of Ardleigh village but only a short drive to the town centres of Colchester and Ipswich and easy access by train into London and close proximity to the A12 (north and south) and A120 to Harwich.

"A relaxing and comfortable place to stay"
Vince's Barn is a well appointed 'home from home' property, a good base for exploring Constable country with Dedham and Flatford within easy reach. It is very spacious with a large lounge, separate dining room and three en-suite bedrooms as well as a good-sized enclosed and attractive garden. Our party ranged from a 4-month old baby to a 92-year old great grandmother, all accommodated with ease. We particularly liked Manningtree (where there is a good Co-op supermarket) and Mistley. Frinton, Holland and Walton are within a 30-minute drive and Colchester is close at hand. East Bergholt in Suffolk is well worth a trip as well.
Thank you for your positive feedback, we are glad that you enjoyed your stay at our property and found plenty of places to explore including the beautiful Constable Countryside close by.

"Peaceful , pretty, and Plenty of room!"
A lovely spot, very peaceful and pretty looking out on to the garden from all the rooms. Plenty of space in all the living areas, a real plus being the en suite to all the bedrooms. Furniture getting a little tired, but overall in reasonable condition. Certainly excellent value and a great location. The hosts were delightful and always willing to help when needed. Getting the internet up and running was bit of a mystery at first but soon sorted. Overall a very enjoyable stay, more like staying with friends than a holiday rental.
Thank you for your positive and honest feedback. We enjoyed having you to stay and hope to see you again in the future. We hope to welcome more Aussies like you and your family!!

"Disappointed - maybe I am too fussy!"
Mouse droppings in kitchen cupboards, crockery and cutlery not too clean, lounge smelt of dogs, deodorised carpet twice, lightbulbs out, only lightly cleaned between visits, not thoroughly as dust and cobwebs were plentiful, old tea or coffee spills on bedside tables, "egyptian" towels were good for exfoliating, property attached to (by two internal doors) and patio overlooked by owners property - I could go on...Wrote to owners about problems and about the disappointment myself and my family felt but received no reply.
Thank you for your feedback and we regret to see you were disappointed. We do our utmost to ensure the accommodation lives up to our guests’ expectations and are always available to sort out any issues that might arise and we personally clean the property to ensure high standards are maintained. As you can see from other guests’ feedback both on the website and the guest book in the property we typically exceed their expectations and most would happily come again and many people don’t even want to leave. We are also surprised none of your concerns were raised during your stay and we did not receive any letter raising your dissatifaction. If things really were as bad as your description and feedback implies, we find it strange this was not raised at the time. If you had informed us, we would have taken steps to improve your stay, but unfortunately we cannot address concerns we are not aware of.

"I wish I could live here"
7 people, 3 generations, ages from 5 to 92 - every one of us loved Vinces Barn and had the holiday of our lives there. The accommodation was beautiful, exactly as it appears in the website pictures. The hosts were wonderful and made sure that everything we could possibly have needed was to-hand. It's a great base from which to explore some of the very best Essex countryside (and the ajoining counties) and we were able to visit London very easily. We would not hesitate to recommend this holiday home to anyone wanting a peaceful getaway in a delightful setting.
Thank you for your valued feedback and we are happy you and your family enjoyed your stay at our property. We hope to welcome you again soon.
