Kay and Andy welcome you to their comfortable and well equipped self-catering properties in the tranquil and picturesque Eden Valley in Cumbria. Originally a 17th-century farmstead, Scalebeck nestles peacefully in the heart of the Eden Valley, just one mile from the pretty village of Great Asby, and surrounded by some of the best local food producers Cumbria has to offer.

Come and relax in Scalebeck's 5-acre grounds... or use as a base to enjoy exploring the nearby Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, and North Pennines. Sit and watch the red squirrels, pheasants, and garden birds... or go hiking, cycling, fishing, or horse riding. It's up to you how active or inactive you want to be!

"The Meadow Cottage" is one of three cottages in the converted hay barn. It shares an entrance porch with barn doors. The property is "upside down" with the open-plan living space taking advantage of the high beamed ceiling. The views from the front are across open farmland, usually with sheep or cows in residence. Downstairs is a very spacious bedroom with super-king bed along with the bathroom (bath with shower over).

The gardens are a haven for wildlife and birds. Among our many regular visitors are red squirrels, deer, rabbits, hares, foxes, pheasants, woodpeckers, buzzards, and a plethora of garden birds. We can let you know the best place to spot them if you are interested.

All guests are free to use the games room (with table tennis and pool table), and shared picnic tables and BBQ in the garden. There is also a coin-operated laundry with washing machine and tumble dryer. Due to patchy mobile phone coverage there is a free phone available in the laundry for guest use. Cot and high chair available on request.

We welcome guests looking for peace and quiet in a tranquil setting and ask that you do your best not to disturb any other guests staying in our other cottages. You are welcome to bring your dog but ask that you keep him/her out of the bedroom and on a lead in the garden. We have a field for dogs to exercise off lead.

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

If Kay (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
