Location description from owner

The Marche region

This is unspoilt Italy, with real food and real people. The climate varies considerably throughout the year with temperatures ranging from 90 degrees in August to -15 in February. With this, you get proper seasons, with banks of wild flowers (including orchids) in the Spring and glorious 'leaf' changes in the Autumn.

Apecchio

Lying on the crossroads of Le Marche, Umbria and Tuscany a visit here offers a wonderful opportunity to visit many fascinating towns and sites. This area was frequently visited by travellers making their way between Florence and Urbino and in towns like (Arezzo and Sanselpolcro) you can almost feel their presence. No trip to this area would be complete without visiting Urbino, or indeed to see the Roman remains in Furlo. Gubbio is approximately 30 minutes away, and Assisi approximately an hour and a half. Much nearer home Piobicco (five mins drive) has a castle museum with a fascinating collection of antique clothes. The town of Apecchio is a lovely example of a medieval hill town, with an excellent fossil museum, this is a town in which the locals are proud to be able to leave their homes unlocked and where you can really appreciate the true Italy. As for festivals, this area has them all: truffle festivals, porcini festivals, the Palio della Rana (locals race through the streets with frogs in wheelbarrows), and even a beer festival.

“Magnifico”

Reviewed 27 Dec 2012

I have been to Sant Ansovino twice now. The first time was with my wife shortly after getting married and more recently, 2 and a quarter years later, with my wife and 18 month old daughter… Sant Ansovino had been wonderfully and tastefully restored. It keeps its charm as a old monastery but is now improved with all the modern conveniences you’d hope for in a holiday let. The building is perched near the top of a hill overlooking three beautiful valleys and the surrounding mountains. This website's photos struggle to do this place justice. The building has a really good feel to it. You can almost sense the cheerful monks of old inside. It is truly child friendly, and you can trust everything to be as advertised plus extra. I’d recommend you light a fire in the grand fireplace of the old chapel/now lounge while sipping prosecco. Have a swim at night in the lit pool that overlooks the countryside. It’s a truly magnificent place to stay. If for some reason you want to leave the property during your stay, there are plenty of wonderful towns and cities a beautiful country drive away, like Gubbio, Assisi, Siena and Urbino . Even Rome is only about three hours away. This is a really special place that I’d highly recommend. JT
