Description from owner

Description

Sant'Ansovino is a 12th century Benedictine monastery nestling in the breathtaking and tranquil hills of central Italy at the crossroads of Tuscany, Umbria and Le Marche. It has been lovingly restored into an elegant and comfortable holiday home using all original materials. Modern conveniences such as en-suite marble bathrooms, Wi-Fi broadband internet links, a large American-sized fridge and professional range cooker abound. Whilst outside, you can sip wine on the terrace, enjoy lunch under the loggia (which has a wood-fired oven as well as a bbq), or simply relax in the large heated swimming pool. An ideal destination for family holidays, anniversary celebrations or indeed a wedding. There is an excellent restaurant within walking distance, together with a wine bar and a bar/shop (open 7 days a week). San Ansovino lies about 4KM East of the beautiful medieval village of Apecchio which offers a wide range of services including a bank (with ATM), several supermarkets, bars, numerous excellent restaurants, a post office, chemist etc. The world famous UNESCO City of Urbino is just 40 minutes away, as are other beautiful hill towns. For the more adventurous we are able to offer many activities including, mountain biking, truffle hunting, and rock climbing, as well as cooking lessons and wine tasting.

“Magnifico”

Reviewed 27 Dec 2012

I have been to Sant Ansovino twice now. The first time was with my wife shortly after getting married and more recently, 2 and a quarter years later, with my wife and 18 month old daughter… Sant Ansovino had been wonderfully and tastefully restored. It keeps its charm as a old monastery but is now improved with all the modern conveniences you’d hope for in a holiday let. The building is perched near the top of a hill overlooking three beautiful valleys and the surrounding mountains. This website's photos struggle to do this place justice. The building has a really good feel to it. You can almost sense the cheerful monks of old inside. It is truly child friendly, and you can trust everything to be as advertised plus extra. I’d recommend you light a fire in the grand fireplace of the old chapel/now lounge while sipping prosecco. Have a swim at night in the lit pool that overlooks the countryside. It’s a truly magnificent place to stay. If for some reason you want to leave the property during your stay, there are plenty of wonderful towns and cities a beautiful country drive away, like Gubbio, Assisi, Siena and Urbino . Even Rome is only about three hours away. This is a really special place that I’d highly recommend. JT
