Location description from owner

The Costa del Sol region

Antequera, known as the “crossroads” of Andalucia benefits from excellent road and rail links to all areas of this region. For those wishing to travel further afield, the amazing sights and rich cultural heritage of the many larger cities are easily accessible. Within easy reach is stunning Seville ( 1 hour +), cordial Cordoba (1.5hours) and the gorgeous Granada (1 hour). Shorter day trips can be made from here to popular tourist destinations such as The Ardales (The Lakes), El Chorro Gorge and the fabulous new attraction of the CAMINITO DEL REY walkway through the gorge. Then there's Rhonda, and of course, the popular beaches of the Costa Del Sol and all they offer are just 40 minutes drive. Furthermore the high speed train to Madrid lies only a few kilometres away making this an ideal base for exploring a wide and varied area.
The area has superb golfing, cycling and bird watching facilities and for the more adventurous, mountain biking, rock climbing and kayaking to name a few. All of which can be arranged for you, prior to your visit.
We live below the property in a very separate house so are on hand should you require any travel directions, ideas on things to do or simply a point in the right direction for the best bars and restaurants.

Antequera

A visit to this historical Andalucían town is a journey almost 5,000 years back in time, beginning with the Bronze Age and the native Iberians. The timeline is there to be followed in this fascinating city's profusion of burial mounds, dolmens, Roman baths, a Moorish Castle, Gothic churches, Renaissance fountains and baroque bell towers.
The first sighting of Antequera in the distance is that of a typical medieval town, with the spires of her many churches and the walls and towers of the great Moorish fortress silhouetted against the sky. Spread out in the valley below lie rich farmlands irrigated by the Guadalhorce River. For centuries this has been one of Andalucía's most fertile areas, and is currently a leading producer of asparagus, cereals and olives. In summer, its fields turn brilliant yellow with sunflowers.
The town and valley are overlooked by an enormous crag of limestone, 880 metres high, called La Peña de los Enamorados, or "The Lovers' Leap". The name comes from a local legend about an impossible love affair between a young Christian man from Antequera and a beautiful Moorish girl from nearby Archidona, who were driven to the top of the cliff by the Moorish soldiers, where, rather than renounce their love, they chose to hurl themselves into the abyss.

“Well- presented and equipped accomodation on the outskirts of an interesting and lively Spanish town.”

Reviewed 24 Jan 2017

My husband and I had a great time based at Casa Antequera for one week just before Christmas. It was the ideal base for exploring the surrounding area with easy access out of town and to the countryside, including El Torcal, while also being within walking distance of shops and restaurants down in the town centre. We enjoyed the festive lights, the late evening hustle and bustle and the carols. There's a steep hill to climb to get back but if you need to use a car there's a free car park just a few yards from the front door. The efficient wood burner kept us cosy during the cooler winter evenings, and we found plenty to keep us away from home during the day but we have to say that, if you're the stay at home type, there's very limited outside space at the property for enjoying the sun on warm days. All the rooms are on one level (street level), and the accommodation is completely self-contained and separate from the home in the same building of the lovely British owner. Jane is the perfect host: she's ready and very willing to help in any way if needed but otherwise stays out of the way, leaving her guests to enjoy their holiday as they see fit.

“A comfortable, clean and spacious apartment in a quiet, charming town”

Reviewed 23 Apr 2016

We had a great stay at Jane and Dave's apartment in Antequera for a week in February, 2016. The rooms are comfortable and the kitchen is well equipped, with everything we needed. Jane and Dave were very friendly and helpful. Although we didn't have the best of weather, we still enjoyed exploring Andalusia. At least we left the snow behind in Canada. The newly installed fireplace kept us cozy and warm! We'd recommend Casa Antequera to everyone.

Owner's reply: Hello Richard and Christa Thank you taking time to give us your lovely review. We very much enjoyed welcoming you here as guests and hope you can visit again very soon. We so wished the weather could have been better for you but are pleased to hear you enjoyed our log burner. Kind regards Jane and Dave
