This lovely restored old bakery is situated in Southern Andalusia in an area of outstanding natural beauty, amidst rolling hills punctuated by olive groves, almond trees and pine forests with the mountains as a backdrop. Wild boar, ibex, deer and wild bird life can be observed during the best part of the year

The owners have kept the rustic character of this more than 100 year old Hispano Moorish farm which can comfortably house from 2 to 6 people.

The inside decoration reflects the owners love for authenticity and interest in world travels. They have beautifully restored the beams in all rooms, uncovered stone walls and generally decorated with rustic and antique furniture and original paintings.

Ideal for a relaxing holiday by the pool and or to visit the historical towns of Andalusia, which are all in easy reach by car. Beautiful walks, horse riding, golf, birdwatching, paint classes, all can booked in advance and facilities close by. Romantic hide away, Farmhouse, villa and Finca. Ideal for ramblers, birdwatching, golf, close to th lakes of Isnajar with beach.

In a nut shell it says that children should be supervised at the swimming pool by parents at all times and adequate travel insurance should be taken before travelling. Smoking is only allowed on terrace and extra care should be taken when using the BQ as in Andalusia it is very dry over the summer months. No hen or bachelor parties. The house is provided for up to 6 people.

“Wonderful hosts and a fantastic property”

Kathryn and Donald were perfect. Our privacy was strictly respected, but they were always available to provide assistance or advice on Andalusia. The villa was spotless, comfortable, and beautifullly decorated. The exterior was also spectacular. Gardens, trails, and art. The infinity pool had a very nice view, but it was a little cool for swimming in October. A car is mandatory here as the location is a little remote. We used the villa as a base for trips to Cordoba, Malaga, Granada, Antequera, Torcal, Iznajar, etc. We usually had an afternoon meal at our destination and did homemade tapas in the evening at the villa accompanied by lagre quantities of beer, wine and port. I have run out of superlatives and do not wish to get out the thesaurus.I have already recommended this property to several friends. Many thanks to Donald and Kathryn

Imagine a place where everything you can imagine is real... Only exists in Picasso's imagination you say? That's what we thought... until we found this place. Pure beauty, peace and calm. Fantastic hideaway, be it as a couple seeking a love nest in solitude or be it as a family (as we were) playing around in the immense and wonderfully established grounds (couple of hectares), amazing swimming pool, breathtaking views,... One of our fondest memories is the perfect heaven of stars in the evening/night, when spotting a falling star is like childsplay. Kathryn and Donald, the owners are darlings. Wonderful people, always helpful and there if you need them, but always keeping themselves to themselves, guaranteeing your privacy. We had a fantastic stay there and, need it said, I cannot recommend this place highly enough...

Cortijo la Serena was voor ons de ideale combinatie om te genieten van de zon, rust en de natuur van het platteland en de cultuur die steden als Granada, Malaga, Ronda, Antequera en het dichtbijgelegen Archidona te bieden hebben. Als je dan nog hartelijk onthaald wordt door de gastvrouw en -heer is het helemaal af! Super locatie

What makes this property so special for me is the peace and quiet, the space of the grounds, the truly beautiful house, and the wonderful owners who go to so much trouble to ensure their guests are happy without being at all intrusive (a rare skill).

The superb accommodation lacks for nothing, and Donald and Kathryn are the most hospitable hosts one could ever wish to meet. We only stayed for a week but should have stayed for a month.

This was our second stay at Cortijo la Serena. We have enjoyed it even more on this second visit. Our hosts Kathryn and Donald were so welcoming and always on hand to answer questions about where to go and what to do. The weather was perfect. The garden looked magnificent. We mainly went golfing at Antequera and exploring the restaurants in Archidina. We will be back.

I do not normally write reviews, but I needed to for Cortijo Serena, as it is just such a beautiful house with fantastic gardens with the perfect hosts. The pictures on the site do not do this place justice, you have to see it in the flesh to appreciate. Owners Catherine and Donald, really do make you feel special; they have a wealth of local knowledge, keep the rental house in tip-top condition, and leave you to enjoy the house, gardens and spectacular pool. There are golf courses, lakes, mountains and classic Spanish market towns all in the local area; not to mention Granada, The coast and Seville all within an easy drive. Rural Andalucia is a favourite holiday spot for me, I worry I will not find somewhere else within this budget that could be any better, never mind I'll just keep going back to Cortijo Serena!

We stayed at the perfectly named La Serena in April in a family group. The property is just wonderful, so very pretty. The surrounding area beautiful. The location is perfect for exploring Andalucia - 2 hours to Seville, 1 hour to Granada, 1 hr 20 mins to Cordoba & 20 mins to Antequera (not that well known but a lovely town steeped in history). An easy 40 minutes drive from Malaga airport & you arrive in the 'real Spain'. Peaceful, quiet & wonderful scenery. The property is very well proportioned & every thing you could wish for is available. Kathryn & Donald couldn't be more helpful - they are very knowledgeable too & gave us some great recommendations for visits and eating. The pool is fabulous and our very favourite thing was the Moroccan tent - awesome for early evening chillout with a glass of something nice - a perfect place to reflect on the wonderful day you've just enjoyed. We will be back!

The house is wonderfully equipped and decorated. The infinity pool is just marvellous! The children liked pool and area, enjoyed to have rooms of their own. Donald and Kathryn are very good hosts.
