Island wide buses operate daily, our local bus stop is 400 meters from our front door. Taxis are numerous.

A secluded rural location where you will appreciate both the privacy and tranquility whilst being within easy distance of a local village shop, and a little further afield, Mahebourg town's banks, shops, supermarkets, bars, restaurants and other amenities.

The sea-shore (which is un-developed) is a 5 minute walk away. The nearest Tourist Beaches of Blue Bay or Trou d' Deuce are a 20 minute drive along the coastal road, where you will discover long white sandy beaches with restaurants, bars and children's play areas.

The immediate shore-line although rocky, offers opportunities for fishing, snorkeling and boat trips.

Bird Watching and Animal Watching

Mauritius has some of the rarest birds on Earth. The Mauritius Kestrel, once the world's rarest bird, the Pink Pigeon and the Echo Parakeet, to name only a few, could be found here in the forested slopes of Lion & Bamboo mountains and the nature reserve of Kestrel Valley (formally Domaine du Chasseur)

There is plenty of wildlife resident in the area. You may spot Java deer, forest monkeys, feral pigs, hares, mongoose and tang. Fruit bats are the only mammals endemic to the island you will see them flying past you at night. One of the oldest creatures to inhabit the island is the giant tortoise. Other reptiles you will spot are the day-gecko, and skinks, which may be smaller, but are colourful and interesting to look at.

Trekking and Mountain Biking

The surrounding country side, is quite mountainous with forested valleys, rivers, sparkling clear streams and unexpected waterfalls. The exotic foliage is lush and tropical. Explore on your own or use our guide - there are many trails, of an easy or strenuous nature.

Bikes are available for hire on site. Use them for an invigorating off road adventure on the trails through the sugar cane fields and mountain slopes. You can also hire them for a leisurely trip to the local shop, or ride along the coastal road, with glorious ocean views.

The seashore is natural and undeveloped in the area. Tourists beaches are within a 20 minute drive.

Studio Mason has a secluded south facing position, away from the main road. The studio shares a large swimming pool and a ½ acre of private tropical gardens.

Studio Mason is ideal for couples, looking for an affordable relaxing holiday away from the crowded coastal resorts and who wish to discover the beauty of the "real Mauritius".
