Fruit bats are the only mammals endemic to the island you will see them flying past you at night. One of the oldest creatures to inhabit the island is the giant tortoise. Other reptiles you will spot are the day-gecko, and skinks, which may be smaller, but are colourful and interesting to look at.

The Grand Port District
The stunning beauty and the extravagant natural make up of Mauritius has contributed to its international recognition as the star of the Indian Ocean or the Paradise Island.
Although primarily famous for its amazing beaches, the island nonetheless has a vast number of other breathtaking natural attractions.
It has more to offer inland as well as along the south coast. Its beautiful sights combined with its climate and lifestyle converge to make Mauritius a complete destination for tourists.
Interesting points of attraction across the island are within easy reach of each other and it rarely takes more than an hour to drive from one sight to the other.
Natural reserves like waterfalls, gorges, lakes, rivers and craters are located mostly in the south of the island.
Man-made sights such as the salt-pans, museums, temples and gardens are worth the detour.
Diverse other features, including monuments, archaeological sites and historical locations, commemorating important people and events are mandatory for those who love history.
Bungalow Shane at Holiday Home Mauritius - is located on the east coast of the Island
Situated at the foot of the valley, between "Lion" and "Bamboo" Mountains, in an area of outstanding natural beauty.
There are stunning views of the forested mountain slopes, and Kestrel Valley (formally known as Domaine du Chasseur).
The local coast and fishing village of Anse Jonchee, are a leisurely stroll from our doorstep.
The coast line in the immediate area is naturally rugged and undeveloped. Deserted sandy coves are interspersed along the sea shore.
