Description

Anghiari, a beautiful hilltop medieval Tuscan town is less than 30 minutes drive from the house but when you are at Bagnolino you will feel as though you have escaped from the whole world. A local family has owned this beautifully kept farmhouse for decades and have only recently decided to rent it out as a holiday let. If you want to experience a side of Tuscany that most don't get to see and you aren't afraid of a bit of driving on dirt roads, you will love this holiday home.

From Anghiari, there is a short journey of 7 minutes on regular roads before you reach the turn off that leads you up into the hills to reach Il Bagnolino. The journey beyond this point is on well kept dirt roads that gradually narrow as you get closer to Il Bagnolino. The farmhouse is reached by a short private road and gates beyond which there is ample parking for guests cars.

The farmhouse is reached by a short private road and gates beyond which there is ample parking for guests cars.

One of the quirky features of this property is that it is divided into 2 parts. The reason for this is that originally, Tuscan farmhouses housed the animals on the ground floor and the family would live above. The ground floor has a good sized kitchen, a large rustic dining room with a large stone fireplace. The room used to be the stable and it still has the original feeding trough in it – although now it is filled with bottles of wine instead of hay. Both the kitchen and the dining room have double doors leading out onto the garden. Also on this floor is a spacious twin bedroom with an en suite bathroom.

The upper floor is accessible from an outside staircase to the side of the property. The front door leads to a spacious living room with an open fire, sofas and television. For the convenience of guests, the owner has placed coffee and tea making facilities in the lounge so they don't have to go downstairs first thing in the morning. There are 3 spacious bedrooms on this floor one of which has an en suite bathroom. Another bathroom is located along the hallway. All of the rooms have stunning views of the gardens and surrounding hills.

At the back of the property there is a shaded cover, perfect for the summer heat where a table tennis table is set up. The is also garden furniture for outdoor dining. There is a fully functioning outdoor pizza oven and bbq built in that has catered for many a summer party over the years. The property is gated and is surrounded by fencing to prevent the local wildlife from entering the garden. This provides a fabulous, secure playground for children that includes a 'deep, dark wood' that will allow their imagination to run wild and is the perfect place for hide and seek. There is also a flat-grassed area with 2 goalposts so perfect for ballgames. Just above this, there is a newly built in fenced, swimming pool. It has gorgeous views of the surrounding area and of the grounds and house. All of the garden furniture has been made locally with sustainable, local wood as great care is taken to protect this beautiful region. In the summer there are plenty of wildboar and deer in the area it is highly likely that you will spot a wild boar and her babies crossing the lane should you drive back late in the evening - very exciting for children.

Please note that our check in time is 4-7pm on your day of arrival. For late check ins there is an additional fee payable upon arrival. 7-9pm €40. 9pm-midnight €80. For Sunday check ins there is an additional €80 fee to pay on arrival.

Location description from owner

The Tuscany region

Tuscany is known for its beautiful landscapes, its rich artistic legacy and vast influence on high culture. Tuscany is widely regarded as the true birthplace of the Italian Renaissance, and has been home to some of the most influential people in history, such as Petrarch, Dante, Botticelli, Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Galileo Galilei, Amerigo Vespucci and Puccini. Due to this, the region has several museums, most of which (such as the Uffizi and the Pitti Palace) are found in Florence, but others in towns and smaller villages. Tuscany has a unique culinary tradition, and is famous for its wines (most famous of which are Chianti, Morellino di Scansano and Brunello di Montalcino). The summers in Tuscany are hot, usually without much rain. Spring (April and May) and Autumn (October and November) are dry, sunny days but the chances of rain are higher. The Winter has sunny, mild days and it can get very cold at night particularly in the hilly areas. As expected July is the hottest month with temperatures ranging from 23°C up to 30°C; January is the coldest month with about 7°C at the coast and about 3.5°C to 5.5°C inland. The busiest time in Tuscany (and Italy generally) is August when the Italians are on holiday. The main tourist season stretches from mid-April to the end of September.

The Anghiari area
Anghiari is considered one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. The town has preserved its medieval roots beautifully and hosts many local festivals throughout the year celebrating its heritage and the local culture and cuisine. There are several pizza restaurants here including an outdoor one with a children's play area as well as some superb traditional Tuscan restaurants.

Sansepolcro is a few kilometers away and is famed for being home to the painting of the Resurrection by Peiro della Francesca which can be seen at the Museo Civico along with several other important pieces of art. For those with children to entertain, there is a large swimming pool in the town with water slides and diving boards as well as shaded picnic areas and a children's play area.

Arezzo is a 30 minute drive from the house. It has a main train station with lines to Florence and Rome. It is a beautiful town that hosts a jousting contest every year that draws crowds from all over Tuscany and beyond. On the first weekend of every month there is an antiques fair that fills every street of the old part of the town.

Other beautiful places to visit that are easily reached for a day trip include; Siena, Assisi, Cortona, Florence. From our office in Anghiari we are happy to organize wine tasting and depending on the time of year, olive picking to produce your own oil to take home.
