Location description from owner

The Tuscany region

Tuscany is known for its beautiful landscapes, its rich artistic legacy and vast influence on high culture. Tuscany is widely regarded as the true birthplace of the Italian Renaissance, and has been home to some of the most influential people in history, such as Petrarch, Dante, Botticelli, Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Galileo Galilei, Amerigo Vespucci and Puccini. Due to this, the region has several museums, most of which (such as the Uffizi and the Pitti Palace) are found in Florence, but others can be found in smaller towns and villages. Tuscany has a unique culinary tradition, and is famous for its wines (most famous of which are Chianti, Morellino di Scansano and Brunello di Montalcino).

The summers in Tuscany are hot, usually without much rain. Spring (April and May) and Autumn (October and November) are dry, sunny days but the chances of rain are higher. The Winter has sunny, mild days and it can get very cold at night particularly in the hilly areas. As expected July is the hottest month with temperatures ranging from 23C up to 30C; January is the coldest month with about 7C at the coast and about 3.5C to 5.5C inland. The busiest time in Tuscany (and Italy generally) is August when the Italians are on holiday. The main tourist season stretches from mid-April to the end of September.

Anghiari

The Anghiari area
Anghiari is considered one of the most beautiful medieval villages in Italy. The town has preserved its medieval roots beautifully and hosts many local festivals throughout the year celebrating its heritage and the local culture and cuisine. There are several pizza restaurants here including an outdoor one with a children's play area as well as some superb traditional Tuscan restaurants.

Sansepolcro is a few kilometers away and is famed for being home to the painting of the Resurrection by Peiro della Francesca which can be seen at the Museo Civico along with several other important pieces of art. For those with children to entertain, there is a large swimming pool in the town with water slides and diving boards as well as shaded picnic areas and a children's play area.

Arezzo is a 20 minute drive from the house. It has a main train station with direct lines to Florence and Rome. It is a beautiful town that hosts a jousting contest every year that draws crowds from all over the world. On the first weekend of every month there is an antiques fair that fills every street of the old part of the town.

Other beautiful places to visit, that are easily reached for a day trip, include; Siena, Assisi, Cortona and Florence. We also offer numerous organised activities such as cooking classes, wine tasting and depending on the time of year, olive picking to produce your own oil to take home.

The nearest beach is Rimini, which takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes to reach by car. Slightly closer by is Lake Trasimeno which is about 50 minutes away by car. Here it is possible to swim, sunbathe and hire boats or take a ferry across to the different islands withn the lake.

Though our office in the centre of Anghiari, we can organise day trips, wine tasting, cooking experiences and seasonal activities such as visits to the local oil mill and vineyards. Please feel free to ask for more information.

“Un angolo di paradiso”

Reviewed 14 Apr 2013

“Stunning scenery, homely flat in central historic village setting”

Reviewed 20 Mar 2013

After a beautiful and easy drive from Rome, I arrived in Anghiari in early evening. The flat is easy to find with convenient and free car parking at the top of the street. It is absolutely central in this pretty and historic town with its many steep and cobbled streets and alleyways to explore. At the top of a flight of shallow stairs the flat opens out into an wide hallway leading, on the left, to a large and airy openplan living-room with dining area and kitchette and most impressively a steinway piano! There is an open fire for chilly evenings but the room is warm and welcoming: TV, sound system, wi-fi (as well as the piano) and a double bedsettee! Off the hallway to the right is a spacious and bright bathroom (bath and overhead shower), a light and airy double bedroom and a sweet little single room. Up a steep internal stair, there is also an attic room which interestingly leads onto the roof. A pleasant place to wedge oneself and enjoy the evening sunshine with a book and a glass of wine! I loved the peace and tranquility of the flat but within minutes you could be in the bustle of the town square and all the shops, restaurants and cafes dotted around. There are interesting places to visit: the museum, the little theatre and fascinating towns and castles abound within a short drive. Anghiari is a lovely, safe place to enjoy and wander in, at any time of day, even as a lone tourist, as people are helpful and friendly. I could fault neither flat nor Anghiari and look forward to another visit.

“Bellissimo”

> We spent a lovely few days here and found the accommodation very comfortable. We were made to feel very much at home. > We loved visiting the local area and eating in the restaurants in the town. I especially liked being able to walk down to the baker early in the morning for fresh bread and local delicacies and bring them back for breakfast! > In the flat the log fire and the spacious bathroom were special luxuries that you don't always find.

“Great hide away in Tuscany!!”

Amazing apartment in a wonderfully located house in the center of Anghiari (province of Arezzo), with fireplace and baby-grand piano (which we were allowed to use!!), furnished with taste and comfort, overlooking from the last floor the beautiful village.... Everything in walking distance, the car parked in a safe place and a feeling like home! The service our agents Pierluigi and Tracey Lega provided us with, left us speechless! From a big welcome basket as well as a fridge full of yummy specialties, they brought everything we needed (like a CD player) within an hour. We can highly recommend itcasa and the apartment and sure we will back soon! Sophie and Dietmar
