Location description from owner

The Languedoc-Roussillon region

Few locations offer the beauty or variety of the Cévennes, ranging from granite tors to deeply incised river valleys and some of Europe's most dramatic limestone gorges and caves. The latent geologist inside us all will delight in walking the granites of the Mont Lozere massif, the limestones of the Causse Mejan and Sauveterre, and the metamorphic schists and slatestone around Mont Aigoual and in the Cevenol valleys. The Cévennes' highest peak, Mont Lozère (1702 metres), lies on the path affectionately referred to as The Stevenson Trail, AKA the long-distance walking route GR 70, which stretches from Le Puy en Velay in Haute-Loire to St Jean du Gard in Le Gard. In his book, “Travels with a donkey in the Cevennes,” a much-lauded and ground-breaking work of the travelogue genre, Robert Louis Stevenson referred to the Cevennes as “that undecipherable labyrinth of hills.” On Mont Lozere he noted that, “in clear weather [it]commands a view over all lower Languedoc to the Mediterranean Sea.”

Anduze

Maison Pommiers is situated at Boisset et Gaujac, a village Est of Anduze - the 'Gateway' to the Cevennes Mountain range & National Park. With it's Massive Limestone Cliffs cut through by the Steam Railway and the Gardon River, Anduze is truly a gateway, and is popular with guests for its cafe culture, Sunday Market, and narrow streets.Catch the steam train to St Jean du Gard on a Tuesday morning and see the local Market, or ride out to Nimes with its World-Class Roman Architecture, boasting the Arena where the film 'Gladiator' was made. On the way see the 'Pont du Gard' a triple-level Roman Aquesduct - the best preserved in the World. There are numerous walks in the area with great views, and many locations popular with canoeists and where you can hire a Kyak or canoe and explore yourself.
