Location description from owner

The New Hampshire region

The Lake District of New Hampshire is known for its traditional villages, farmland, low, forested mountains and many lakes, rivers, and streams. Summers can be hot and sultry, while winters are generally cold and snowy. Dramatic displays of brilliant foliage color mark the autumn, and spring brings wild flowers and bird migrations. This is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the peaceful countryside and fresh air whether from a seat in the garden or on a walk in the woods. There is no shortage of outdoor activities for people of all ages.

Andover

The Artist's House is on a quiet country road nestled against a large area of unbroken forest, and on a hillside that faces Ragged Mountain. Kearsarge Mountain can be seen in the distance from the nearby roads, and there are easily followed trails to the summit in two nearby state parks. The local roads serve as good walking trails as traffic is generally light.

A stream at the bottom of the hill leads to a waterfall 1.5 miles upstream. There are three bodies of water in the neighborhood, and kayaks or canoes can be hired. There is a town beach on the largest lake, and several golf courses and ski areas within a 30 minutes drive. The bicycle trail that follows the old railway is easily accessed from the house.

The house is located between the villages of Andover and East Andover,

“Great country getaway”

Reviewed 4 Jan 2014

The "Artist House" was a perfect country getaway for me and my friends from NYC; a place to recoup and de-stress with nature and fresh air, away from all media (no TV, radio, etc.) Near lots of little swimming holes and great skiing, where we felt like we had the whole town to ourselves. The old house was rustic and comfortable with alot of original fixtures and decor, but equipped with all the conveniences of a modern home. The owners were friendly and warm, and was extremely helpful and hospitable and made sure that the kitchen was well stocked with all the working amenities you can think of: coffee maker, pots/pans, toaster, kettle, etc. The house was well stocked with clean linens, towels, and extra blankets for those chilly winter nights. And given that the owners (Susan and Andy) live just down the road, made it easy if we had any questions or needed anything else which they were all so willing to provide. We even made friends with their dogs who happily endured our long walks in the snow :). We had a fantastic time there, and would love the chance to stay there again...maybe in the warmer months of the year so we can take full advantage of the outdoors will all the little lakes and hikes that are at your disposal.
