Tucked away up a quiet lane, this Lake District stone cottage, with an open fire, makes for a cosy, comfortable stay in Ambleside. The lively resort of Ambleside village is a few minutes stroll away, with ample choice of cafes, restaurants, pubs and shops to potter around and enjoy. There are plenty of walks to chose from and quiet a few popular ones can be started direct from the cottage.
The cottage is cosy and compact but with all you need for a relaxing stay in the Lake District.
Entrance into a cosy lounge with traditional stone hearth open coal fire and then leads to dining area and well equipped kitchen. Up a steep staircase to two bedrooms - sleeping a maximum of 4 people. The front bedroom with double bed and back bedroom with twin beds.
(please note that with 4 adults space is a little restricted though the costs are the same so will suit those looking for a budget break).
A recently refurbished modern bathroom with walk-in shower but no bath and gas central heating.
With 4 guests the size of the lounge and dining areas is quite restricted, although those looking for a bargain break will benefit from the reasonable pricing structure.
Outdoor seating to the front of the cottage, for those warmer evenings where you can enjoy a well deserved glass of something after your days exploring or to the rear there is an enclosed grassed yard at the back - ideal for a summer barbecue (shared with other residents from Blue Hill).
There is an outside old privvy - great for storing bikes and muddy boots as well as an off road parking space towards the front of the property,
With the village and the fells so close-by you can abandon the car for the duration if you so wish.
Now as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, you will have plenty to choose from when planning your days out here in the Lake District and Blue Hill Cottage is the perfect base to explore all this wonderful area has to offer.

“Blue hill Cottage”
Blue hill cottage is in good location for getting round lakes and short walk to all amenities it was nice and clean and good eating places we liked the lion on a night.

Lovely clean cosy cottage, ideally located only minutes walk from the centre of the village. Location meant that we could just abandon the car for the weekend, making use of the nearby ferry. Cottage itself is clean, compact & cosy. Newly fitted bathroom has a fabulous shower. Travelled with my friend & her toddler, the stairs are quite steep but made it through the weekend with no mishaps thanks to the stair gate provided & keeping a close eye on her. Hope to return in the future & wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone. Communication with Jenny the owner was quick & easy & her directions spot on! Overall brilliant weekend thankfilly we were very lucky with the weather.

Lovely, cosy cottage. Well equipped and in good location for access to Ambleside and Waterhead. We tried a few of the local cafes and restaurants and can recommend Copper Pot cafe and La Tarentella as being particularly good.

“Lovely stay in cosy cottage close to town”
We (me, my husband and 2 year old daughter) had a lovely stay in Bluehill Cottage. It was perfect for us and had everything we needed and was very warm and cosy. It is only a 5 minute walk into Ambleside so the location is great. Also some lovely walks right from the doorstep. Our 2 year old liked it very much and the baby equipment was a great help (highchair, stair gate, travel cot provided) The kitchen had everything we needed and the bedrooms were very comfy. The bathroom has an excellent shower, just what you need after a day walking (although our hikes are a little less vigorous nowadays!). Finding the property and parking were all easy and the owner’s notes were very good for that. Highly recommended.

“Fantastic cottage in a brilliant location.”
My partner and I stayed in Blue Hill Cottage in the first week in June. Upon our arrival we were instantly impressed by how cosy and well-equipped the cottage is. The kitchen has everything you could want to prepare meals (hob, oven, microwave, crockery, pans, etc.). the lounge is comfortable, with two sofas, an open fireplace and TV. The bathroom has a power shower over the bath and the bedrooms are compact but comfortable. We were also impressed by how clean and tidy every room is - immaculate, was the word that sprung to mind. For our stay, we were blessed with fine weather and we found Blue Hill Cottage to be ideally situated - literally minutes walk downhill to the shops and restaurants of Ambleside. We were near enough to keep popping back to the cottage throughout the day to drop off shopping and to freshen up, but at night it was silent. Leaving the cottage and heading away from Ambleside, we were ten minutes stroll from Waterhead at the top of Lake Windermere, where we took advantage of the lovely evenings for after-dinner walks by the lakeside. During our week, we travelled all over the Lake District by bus and it was always a delight to return to Blue Hill Cottage in the evenings. It felt more like 'home' than a mere holiday let and we would certainly love to stay there again in the future. To round off this review I would like to suggest a couple of places to eat out in Ambleside. Firstly Lucy's in Church Street is fantastic. The atmosphere is "shabby chic", the service is great and the food is amazing. If Thai food is to your taste, you couldn't do better than visit The Doi Intanon, in the old market hall, at the top of Market Place. We can't recommend the food and service highly enough. Neither my partner, Jane, nor I had eaten Thai food before, but we are both now hooked after eating here. And last, but not least, we heartily recommend The Apple Pie Shop in Rydal Rd. Apart from the most divine apple pie, they also serve incredible breakfasts (try the Mexican with tortilla strips, Salsa tomatoes, refried beans and scrambled egg). All in all we had a fantastic holiday in Ambleside and couldn't have hoped for better accommodation than Blue Hill Cottage. Thanks, Jenny, for a marvellous stay.
The best thing about this rental has to be in incredible view from the hill as you walk out. Just breath-taking. The cottage itself is very nice and contains everything necessary for a comfortable stay. It is very small and cosy. however, so unless you're one of those immensely tidy families I'd recommend no more than two people to stay here at once! Also, the exterior of the cottage is wonderfully looked after and full of greenery. We had a great stay overall.
“Perfect for our family of two adults and two teenage daughters”
Such a cute place, we all loved Blue Hill Cottage; probably the favourite of our 5 week holiday in the UK and the continent. It was located perfectly; the town in one direction and the lake in the other. It was very homely and had everything we needed for a comfy stay. Although it wasn't very cold when we were there, there was one cooler night where we couldn't resist lighting the fire and it kept the temperature inside just right. We were out and about all day and when we came home we didn't feel at all cramped and all happily sat in the lounge area or the kids up in the room on their IPads using the free WIFI. It was perfect for our family and I would stay again in a heartbeat.
“A perfect holiday in a perfect cottage.”
As soon as we arrived in Blue Hill Cottage, we felt at home. The cottage had everyone that we wanted and more and the attention to detail, such as coal for the fire, tea and coffee in the kitchen, bird seed to feed the birds and a throw rug to cuddle under at night made our stay very comfortable. Also, there was very good, very reliable internet, which was great, as my husband's work sometimes requires him to work from home, and the internet at the house was excellent. The house is small, only living room and kitchen downstairs and two bedrooms and bathroom upstairs, but it suited us and our two daughters (aged 11 and 9) very well. The location is perfect as The house is very quiet, but it very close to all the shops and to the lovely town, so although we had it nice and peaceful, we didn't feel at all cut off. There are plenty of maps and guides in the house, which helped us plan our days out, which was very helpful. The bathroom was large and very clean and the kitchen had all that we wanted and was large enough to cook anything we wanted. Jenny was very helpful in our booking process and the self check in and out worked very well. I would gladly stay here again and I would recommend this place to all my friends and family. The area is just gorgeous and there are many walks you can do from the house. We were very sad to leave.

Our third visit to Blue Hill and it is rapidly becoming a home from home, love the location with great walks and restaurants nearby. The owners look after the cottage so well and booking process is very easy. Highly recommended.
“Exceptional value for money”
Blue Hill Cottage was a wee cottage nestled in the back of a complex up a hill with panoramic views of hills across the Windermere valley. The cottage itself was exceptionally well equipped and extremely clean. We were sorry to not have requirement for the beautiful fireplace, which must be an absolute treat in the colder months. The beds were really comfy - very important after we completed the Windermere marathon! Ambleside was a stroll down the hill away, and there are plenty of places to choose from to eat and drink there. For what the cottage provided, in terms of location, scenery, provision and cleanliness, this was tremendous value for money. A real treat. The owner was extremely helpful and prompt in responding to correspondence.
