The relaxed refinement of Under Rigg Cottage has seduced many a visitor. Nestled at the foot of beautiful Loughrigg Fell, it is a haven for walkers, cyclists and lovers of the outdoors. The pretty village of Ambleside at the head of Lake Windermere is five minutes walk away. Ambleside offers an abundance of shops, restaurants, bistros (including two fully vegetarian venues), cinema, cafes, plus its own indoor climbing wall.

Furbished and maintained to the highest standards, guests at Under Rigg Cottage can enjoy magnificent Lakeland views from the fresh, comfortable living room overlooking Loughrigg Fell. Walkers and cyclists can open the front door onto relaxing and challenging routes to explore the Fells and beyond, leaving the car behind with private parking at the door.

Golf, water sports, horse riding and other outdoor pursuits are all within easy reach, as well as the tranquil Langdale Valley, beautiful Grasmere and Rydal Water. Or walk a few minutes from the door to Watershead and catch a ferry across the Lake to Bowness, Newby Bridge or The Aquarium of The Lakes.

Under Rigg Cottage is equipped to the very highest standard, with entrance cloakroom and a separate laundry/drying room for clothes boots and other equipment. The stylish excellently equipped kitchen has all modern appliances and a dining area with an extending table ideal for both intimate dinners and hearty breakfasts. The cottage has a full sky tv package and unlimited wifi.

The large enclosed private garden and is suitable for dogs. It also offers a spacious patio with garden furniture to take in the wonderful panorama of Loughrigg Fell to one direction and Wansfell Pike in the other.

The cottage is an ideal base for both couples and families with a stylish king size master bedroom and en suite shower, separate bathroom with an electric shower over bath, a spacious twin bedroom, plus additional sofa bed on request.

Interaction with guest

We have a housekeeper who is local, so any emergency issues can be dealt with very quickly. Keys are available from a coded locked box, so no worries about collection and return to comply with office hours etc. You can arrive at your leisure and let yourselves in. Cottage cleaned and beds will be made up ready to go when you arrive (additional sofa bedding and travel cot at no extra charge on request). All laundry and cleaning will be taken care of once you have departed.

The owner keeps your Good housing deposit. In addition does not forward left items and refuses to speak to you hanging up. Cottage extremely noisy.

Owner's reply:
Urine on shower room floor, soiled bedding, shattered broken glass bottles on carpets, dog hairs on furniture involves additional cleaning and attention at changeover. Guest are respectfully asked to leave the property in a reasonable condition, this did not happen. Therefore, good housekeeping deposit was taken as per terms and conditions entered into by guests. Left property was returned by recorded delivery at owners expense. Alternative interpretation of "refuses to speak on phone" : try "refuses to be yelled at and repeatedly abused on the phone, therefore politely terminated the call". Not sure where the noise came from as the property is on quiet lane. We have owned and let cottage for over 20 years this is the first guest ever to make these statements and to leave this level of mess and destrustion. Sad. 99.9% of our guests are delightful and send wonderful emails saying thank you and return again. Clearly you cannot win them all.
