Our staff of 7, led by our ever-smiling manager, Ranjan, will make sure you are taken care of in a manner beyond 5 star. Our kitchen staff will prepare the most delectable Sri Lankan meals. Our kitchen also serves a wide variety of Western and other Asian cuisines. You can dine in the gazebo, on your private verandah or under the stars on the beach with the waves lapping by your table. Watch the fishermen bring in the morning catch or cast out to sea in the evening, hear the chatter of the parakeets flocking to roost in our coconut trees and watch the evening sky blaze in brilliant tropical sunsets. The little fishing town of Ambalangoda, where Max Wadiya is located, is well known for its mask-making, devil dancing and antique furniture. The town has supermarkets, banks, a fisheries harbour, fresh produce markets and a train and bus station connecting you to all parts of the island.Water sports are available a short ride away and the resort towns of Bentota and Hikkeduwa, with their bars and restaurants are close by.

We can arrange airport transfers, transport and trips to all parts of the island.Max Wadiya is increasingly moving towards a "green" environment with solar panels for water heating, energy saving bulbs, a water harvesting tank, a recycling system and a compost box. Whenever possible we purchase organically grown fresh produce and poultry. In recent years giant sea turtles have come up onto our beach to lay their eggs and we have been working with the local fishermen to protect them from two-legged or feathered predators until they hatch and the baby turtles are guided safely back into the sea.

Location description from owner

Southern Province region

The southern province of Sri Lanka is famous for it's beautiful stretches of wide, golden sands, glorious sunsets and wide range of water sports, historical and natural places to visit and local crafts.
Max Wadiya is ideally situated in an authentic fishing village and stands on one of the island's most beautiful beaches which is shared mostly with the local fisherman.
It is about 40 minutes away from the historic 16th C Dutch/British fortress town of Galle, 30 minutes from the resort town of Bentota and 15 minutes from Hikkeduwa, famous for it's surfing beaches and deep-sea diving facilities.
For the energetic, trips to tea plantations, nature reserves, rain forests, whale watching or a river rafting expedition can be done in a day with plenty of half-day excursions for those preferring to stay closer to home.
For those interested in a day's shopping, Colombo, the island's capital, is a 90 minute car ride away.

Ambalangoda

Max Wadiya is situated in a little fishing town called Ambalangoda which is famous for its mask-making industry and folk dancing.
The town has a busy fisheries harbour where we buy our fish each day and farmers' markets where we buy our fresh produce.
It also has 2 well-stocked supermarkets, pharmacies, photography stores, banks with ATM machines and a train/bus station which is well connected to other parts of the island.
The area is well-known for it's antique furniture and artifacts stores as well as villages involved in local handicrafts.
A moonstone mine set inside the neighbouring villages is a 20 minute tuk-tuk ride away.
