This house could be an ideal retreat for wirter or artist. It is situated at a mere 6 minutes drive from Amandola in Le Marche region. On the edge of the Sibillini National Park in a tiny hamlet, it offers a quiet retreat from urban noise and hassle. It has stunning views with tranquil sitting areas to suit different times of the day: if you fancy breakfast on the terrace or drinks in the garden or lunch on the loggia, there are choices of outdoor furniture to suit.
If you like visiting the local mountain villages and admiring the architecture with a delighful lunch as part of your day there are many to choose from: Monte San Martino (15Km) with its Crivelli paintings; Santa Vittoria (20Km) oozing charm and ancient buildings. If you want something more active, then walking and biking trails in the Sibillini mountains offer varying degrees of difficulty and challenge with way marked paths and refuges. Tennis and horseriding are available locally and there is a gym in Amandola. More relaxing is a spa in Sarnano or cookery courses in Amandola. All this only a half hour's drive away. But if you want merely a stroll there are many possibilities from the house, without getting into a car.
This is a house and garden that has been much loved. Its previous owner retired to Italy in 1994 and refurbished it to her specification. She was a great lover of all kinds of wood and this can be seen everywhere in the house, especially the beautiful internal staircase. Originally a traditional Italian farmhouse with the ground floor housing the animals and the family living upstairs, the house is now a spacious and comfortable combination of traditional and modern on two floors. It has a large living/dining room downstairs. There is a spacious kitchen and an attached cantina with secure storage for walking and cycling equipment. Upstairs is another cosy sitting room with TV, DVD and CD players. There are two bedrooms with good storage: one a double room opening out onto the upstairs terrace with extensive views towards Amandola and Santa Vittoria; the second is a twin bedded room which looks out onto the garden. The house has full central heating and a massive woodburning fire downstairs for chilly evenings. There is a large and eclectic selection of books for you to dip into.
The house is managed by a charming young woman who is bilingual in English and Italian. She will be on hand to help you out with local information and to answer any queries.

The Marche region
Le Marche is a relatively undiscovered part of Italy offering a wide range of delights of mountain and sea for those seeking the 'far niente' or the more muscular attractions of walking, hiking and biking. Seasonal skiing is 45 minutes away at Sassotetto. There are dazzling wild flower displays on the high slopes in spring and early summer. The landscape around the house is an attractive mixture of steep cultivated fields and heavily wooded slopes where wild boar roam and even porcupine have been spotted. The nearest town to Casa di Lupo is Amandola only 3 km away by car. It offers bars restaurants and supermarkets. The medieval heart of the old town here is worth a wander: you can see Casa di Lupo from the high walls. Visit the bijou baroque theatre of La Fenice. During the summer and autumn there are local village festivals celebrating regional delicacies. Further afield (45 mins) is Ascoli a delightful historical town and provincial capital. Macerata (1 hour) has an opera season to rival Verona. The Adriatic coast is 45 minutes away, with seafood restaurants in abundance. Make for Pedaso which has a blue flag beach. You are well located for overnight trips further afield to Urbino or Assisi.
The area around the house is farmed in the traditional way. There are woods, vineyards and sunflower fields. From the house you can see Mt Vettore (2476m) in the Sibillini range. Drive west into the mountain villages of Montefortino and Montemonaco to see spectacular vistas and on up onto the high slopes where sheep and cattle graze in the summer and where in spring and early summer there is an abundant display of wild flowers. Market days are always worth noting: in Amandola it is Wednesday. In Communanza Saturday and Thursday in Sarnano. All within 15-25 minutes from the house. Drive north and east and you will see a different geography: still with villages perched on top of volcanic hills all with wonderful views and their own individual character and history. Try the restaurants in Monte San Martino or Santa Vittoria. Have a prosecco in one of the many bars and watch the world go by!

"Peaceful location with stunning views"
The house is traditional in construction and modern in its facilities with a big spacious living area downstairs and a smaller cosier one upstairs reached by a beautiful high quality wooden staircase. We loved the private terrace upstairs at the back of the house - it's a great place to sit with a glass of prosecco and a plate of antipasti admiring the views across the rolling countryside to the nearby small town of Amandola. This is a great place to get away from it all and chill out, but there's plenty for the active to do within easy driving distance - it's near the National Park for walking, biking and admiring the spring flowers, though it was the autumn colours at the time we were there. There are numerous places to enjoy the local food in all the little medieval hilltop villages and the weekly markets plus art, architecture and opera. A dream place for artists and keen photographers. The kitchen is well equipped for all cooking needs, but it's easy not to bother - there are so many places to eat out (though you do have to drive)
