The Cateran Trail is a fully waymarked walk of 64 miles (103 km) that lies at the heart of Scotland. The Trail takes its name from the feared cattle thieves who raided the rich lands of Strathardle, Glenshee and Glen Isla. The neighbouring Angus glens of Glen Clova, Glen Prosen, Glen Doll and Glen Esk also offer numerous Munros and trails.

Skiing
Skiing is available at Glenshee Ski Resort (16 miles). Glenshee Ski Centre offers the UK's most extensive skiing and snowboarding facilities with an impressive 22 lifts and 36 runs offering an amazing diversity of natural terrain for all standards of skiers and snowboarders. Glenshee Ski Centre is the largest ski resort in Scotland and is sometimes referred to as the Scottish three valleys.

Horse Riding
Horse riding is available at nearby Glenmarkie Riding Centre (4 miles). Enjoy trekking, lessons or hacks surrounded by breathtaking scenery.

Golf
Golf is abundant on this Angus / Perthshire border with Glenisla, Alyth, Strathmore, Rosemount and Kirriemuir Golf Clubs all within 30 minutes drive. Carnoustie, Gleneagles and the Fife golf clubs of St Andrews, Kingsbarns, the Old Course, Balcomie and Elie are also within easy reach for a day trip.

Fishing
Excellent salmon river and trout loch fishing is on offer in numerous locations nearby. Permits can be bought for Lintrathen Loch (5 miles) which is boat fishing only, has twenty two boats and is stocked on a regular basis with both brown and rainbow trout. The Backwater, situated higher up the glen gives the purist a chance to fly fish the banks for wonderful wild brown trout with an average weight of eight ounces. Both lochs are regularly visited by clubs and individual anglers from the furthest points in the country and Lintrathen has been a venue for the Commonwealth Championship.

“Excellent Cottage”

Reviewed 3 Mar 2014

We stayed here for the week of February half term with our boys aged 11 and 7. The cottage is fitted out beautifully, and everything seems brand new. While one of us went skiing with our eldest, the other stayed home with the younger boy. There was a great selection of kids DVDs and some good games, and nice walks up the hill behind the cottage. It was lovely and warm (we had to turn the storage heaters down), and the wood-burning stove added to the cosiness. We had to go into Dundee on the Thursday to reprovision (although we later discovered that supermarket delivery is an option) and had a great day out in a great city. The owner was very considerate; my 'emergency pack' of dishwasher tablets etc was completely unnecessary as everything was provided. There was no WiFi and no phone reception for Vodafone, but the Freesat TV worked fine. We hope to stay here again.

Thank you for your review. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay. We are in the process of getting Wifi installed so hopefully this will be available next time. Sorry you didn't get a signal with Vodafone, Orange and EE seem to work better up here. We would love to welcome you back to the cottage anytime. Diana
