As we have lived in Altea for the past 30 years we have all the insider knowledge to be able to offer endless advice and tips on Altea's hidden gems.
The commercial part of town offers a daily food market, boutiques and a palm-fringed esplanade lined with restaurants and cafes serving a variety of dishes to suit your every taste and whim of the moment.Altea boasts not just one but two harbours, the picturesque old fishing harbour and the marina with its Club Nautico, which includes an excellent restaurant. On Tuesdays between 08:30 and 13:00, Altea holds an important street market , and visitors flock from all over the area to purchase fresh, locally grown produce and a variety of artefacts. Although most of our guests seem more than content to while away the day relaxing and enjoying the easy lifestyle associated with Altea´s old town and beach, there is a multitude of things to do in the surrounding area. Due to Altea´s cultural status (it is home to a Conservatory and a University of Fine Arts) there are many art galleries and antique and craft shops, selling items unique to the area, as well as a contemporary concert hall, the Palau de la Musica.Along the many sports available ranging from watersports to hiking and climbing, there are also attractions for children and the young at heart. A twenty-minute drive away, you have a choice between the water-themed park Aqualandia, Terra Mitica, the largest amusement park in Spain with thrilling rides based on the five antique civilisations of the Mediterranean area, and the popular Mundomar Dolphinarium. For night life, Benidorm is a mere 11 kilometers away.City life in Alicante (45 mins) and Valencia (1 hr 15 mins) is offset by the stunning Costa Blanca mountain scenery, home to the ancient monastery village of Guadalest.

The Valenciana region
Situated about 7 kilometres north of Benidorm on the Costa Blanca, Spain, the pretty coastal town of Altea has often been called 'the artists capital of the Costa Blanca', as the narrow streets of the old town are lined with the workshops and galleries of the artists and potters who have made their home there.
The picturesque town of Altea embodies both modern and old Spain. It is one of the most charming places on the Costa Blanca; sheltered by mountains and overlooking the sea. Altea old town itself has long been recognised as the Bohemian centre for musicians, artists and writers from all over Europe.
The old town is set on a hill above the waterfront.
Calle Santo Domingo - in the heart of historic Altea: To get acquainted with Altea, you should leave your watch behind you, and roam the streets at your leisure. Stepping out of Calle Santo Domingo and turning left takes you to the Church Square - the focal point of the Old Town, and home to the landmark blue and white dome.
Terra Mitica, for those who like theme parks at about 10 km away just outside Benidorm Described as "fun for the family" , Terra Mitica is the first real theme park in Spain. It is not an amusement Park. but a theme park that recreates the lost civilisations of the Mediterranean: Egypt, Greece, Rome, Iberia, and the Islands. Its main rides take you back to the myths and legends of these ancient cultures with state of the art technology, special effects, animatronics and digital imagery. The Maze of the Minotaur and the Colossus are part of the attractions here.
2. Callosa is about 15 km.away. The route is extraordinary, with a backdrop of orange and nispero groves lining either side of the route. Close to Callosa d'En Sarrìa is its Nature Park, where the Fonts d'Algar are situated. The Fonts are known as the "Font de Fonts" (Spring of all Springs).
The road to the Fonts from Callosa is well signposted. On leaving Callosa you will see to your right a wonderful view of the valley's water canals and greenery of the Nature Park.
The Fonts themselves are a series of small springs which merge to form a beautiful waterfall and small lagoons of the "Fonts d'Algar" proper. There are lots of footpaths to explore and you will find many natural pools, all fed by the D'Algar waterfall. On a hot summer day the springs is an interesting alternative to the beach, as the spring waters are a steady 18°C. You can swim and relax in the shade of the trees.
The Fonts D'Algar has its own restaurant, plus barbecue and picnic facilities.
Guadalest is surrounded by the Aitana, Serella and Xorta mountains and has been declared a 'Monument of Historical and Artistic Value'. It was founded by the Moors in 715, and comprises a little village within a large castle on a rock It then became part of the domain of Teodomiro and Tarik. In 1238 the town was conquered by Jaime I , and the various counter attacks from the Moors were beaten off. The Moors rose up again in 1248 under the command of Alazraq but were defeated and expelled from the kingdom of Valencia. In 1275 a ruling was passed that any Moor wishing to change his place of abode must have prior permission from the Christians.

We have just returned from a fabulous holiday in Sue & Peters beautiful town house. From it's luxury facilities to its ideal location it's just perfection. It's bijou courtyard is the ideal place for al fresco dining and pre-dinner drinks being verdant and cool with lovely subdued lighting. The bedrooms are furnished to a high standard and ensured we all slept soundly, even through the early delights of the local festival! It's location in the old town is ideal and it's proximity to all the restaurants and bars is perfect, the local mojito bar is impassable..or so we found. Sue was a delight, very friendly, helpful and available whenever we wanted any local information. They were the perfect hosts, and I enjoyed myself so much I didn't want to leave and will most definitely be 're-booking.
Thank you all for your lovely review. It was a pleasure have such lovely ladies staying with us. You were all so vivacious and dynamic it was great to meet you. I really enjoyed our chats and hope to see you again later in the year. A special thank you for taking such good care of our home.

This was our second visit to Altea and we stayed in the same house as before. Again, we were not disappointed. The standard of the accommodation is very high and Pete and Sue (the owners) were extremely helpful. The house was spotless. Plenty of clean towels were provided, as were beach towels. The beds are very comfortable and the linen is of excellent quality. We love Altea old town with its alfresco dining around every corner. There are a number of interesting shops intermingled within the various cafes and restaurants. It’s very safe and we were happy for our teenage children to explore the area on their own. The beach is just a short walk away and local transport is good if you want to go further afield. During our stay we visited Les Fonts de l'Algar waterfall and Benidorm and took a stroll along the beach front in Altea. We are looking forward to visiting again in the near future.
Thank you for your lovely review. It was so nice to welcome your family back for the second time. We loved hearing from the children how much they enjoyed going for ice creams and shopping in the old town during the evenings. Thank you for taking such good care of our holiday home and we look forward to you staying with us again next year.

"A really great place to stay"
Big thanks to Sue and Peter for a lovely stay in the Townhouse. It is in a great position, right up in the Old Town, just round the corner from the main Church square and the many good restaurants in the streets surrounding it. Despite being in the centre, it was blissfully quiet sitting reading in the leafy courtyard relaxing with a glass of wine. It also has a nice terrace off the second bedroom to sit and catch the sun. We will definitely go back as we had a great holiday.

"Excellent holiday in Altea"
We would like to reiterate all the positive comments posted in previous reviews. In short – the house was in the perfect location near to the picturesque church square and a good selection of restaurants. It was wonderfully and thoughtfully equipped with everything you could possibly require and Sue couldn’t have been any more helpful and obliging from our initial enquiry to our leaving. The added bonus was the beautiful weather. Many thanks Sue, and we hope to return soon.

"Wonderful house set in fantastic location"
We loved this house and we really liked Altea. Beautiful old town, lovely coast line and good restaurants. The house itself was so comfortable and smart, with really nice touches. Everything had been thought through. It was a joy to be there. We loved sitting on the terrace and listening to the church bells. The courtyard garden was also wonderful. Sue was very helpful and friendly so we felt at home from the start. We hope to visit again next year.
Thank you so much for your lovely review. It was our pleasure to have you stay with us and to know that you were able to relax and enjoy yourselves both in the house and also in the old Town. Altea's historic quarter is a very special place , and our townhouse also. We try hard to make sure each of our guests' holiday is perfect. It is therefore especially nice to read that you hope to return to us next year. We look forward to seeing you both again.
