Location description from owner

The Valencian Country region

Alicante ProvinceThe province of Alicante is located in eastern Spain in the Autonomous Community of Valencia. Situated on the Mediterranean coast, in the region known as Costa Blanca, the province is bordered by Valencia to the north, Murcia in the south west and the Mediterranean Sea to the east.Alicante is one of the most popular provinces as a tourist destination, with the famous resorts ofAlicante, its capital city, Benidorm, Denia, Elche and Torrevieja. Thousands of visitors flock here every year to enjoy beautiful blue flag beaches, all year mild climate, delicious cuisine and friendly, warm welcome from the locals. HistoryDocumented records show that the Iberians were the first inhabitants of the Alicante province and there are several archaeological sites in the region, which depict this era, one in particular is La Serreta (near Alcoy). The area was subsequently occupied by the Phoenicians, Greeks, Carthagians, Romans, Visigoths, Moors and finally conquered by Ferdinand III in the 13th century. At one point in history, the region formed a part of the Kingdom of Valencia.

Altea la Vella

Altea is without doubt one of the most charming towns to be found on Spain's 'White Coast', located in the region of Alicante on the Costa Blanca. The town is just 11 kilometres north of Benidorm, yet the two resorts are worlds apart. Altea is similar to other Costa Blanca towns in that it has a new and an old neighbourhood. The old section is perched on top of a hill from where you will find really spectacular views.CuisineTry any of the delicious varieties of rice dishes, combined with shellfish, fish or meat that are renowned in the region of Alicante. To complete your meal, Alicante has some excellent local wine denominations, and for dessert, don't forget the famous ice creams, Turron and dates. ?Climate??The province of Alicante enjoys a privileged location and an excellent mild climate, with an average year round temperature of 18-20° C. Rent-a-House-Spain, Costa Blanca, Moraira, pool, golf, sea, beach, dishwasher, Dutch satellite TV,Although the resort of Altea is less than 10 miles from Benidorm, the two resorts could not be more different. Altea is a relaxing holiday destination with historic buildings, cobbled streets, a beautiful church and a number of typically Spanish shops, restaurants and cafes. The resort of Altea Hills is perched on a mountain side and provides breathtaking views of the Mediterranean, the old town of Altea, and on a clear day you can even see the Alicante skyline which is around 45 miles away. From Altea Hills you can be on the beach within just a few minutes by car. The properties in the area range from luxurious villas that are worth several million euros, to more standard two and three-bedroom apartments. Things to do and places to visit in Altea.Altea has many attractions and you will not be stuck for things to do. The resplendent church of Nuestra Senora Del Consuelo was built in 1910 and it is a splendid example of a Mediterranean church with hand-painted, sea blue mosaic tiles. The shopping precinct of Altea is very quaint and old-style Spanish. The shops usually open between 10 am and 9 pm, but many shop owners will adhere to the custom of taking a siesta during the hot months, and therefore will close between 2 and 4 pm.The best way to get round Altea is on foot, as this way you can see the delightful old buildings on the cobbled streets that would be missed if you were travelling by car. You can also take a mountain walking tour with one of several companies that specialize in guided tours. In the main square of Altea there is a fascinating bohemian market where local craftspeople, artists and other sellers sell unique items between the months of April and September.Golfers will find the Altea Golf Club to be on par with other top golf courses in Spain; therefore Altea is a popular destination with golfers from all over Europe.Although Altea has plenty of traditional bars and restaurants, and you can enjoy a different location every night of your holiday if you wish, the nightlife is nowhere near as lively as in neighbouring Benidorm. However, as Benidorm is located less than 10 miles away you can easily take a taxi from your Altea accommodation if you want to stay out until the early hours. How to get to Altea from the AirportAltea is located about 50 miles from Alicante airport, and by car the journey takes around 50 minutes. There are many companies offering a shuttle service by car or bus, and this can be booked at the same time as you arrange your flight. Alternatively, you can take a regular bus to Benidorm and from there finish the journey with a short taxi ride to Altea.Altea WeatherBoth the summer and winter weather in Altea is very enjoyable due to the Sierra de Bernia mountains that surround the town and keep out northern winds. Temperatures during the hottest summer months may exceed 30°C, and winter temperatures usually do not drop below 15°C.
