A great area for walking, lying below Cross Fell, the highest peak on the Pennine Way, which passes the cottage, as does the Coast to Coast cycle route. There are easy family walks to local waterfalls, or along the river to Alston. Go upstream to the source of the River South Tyne, or further on to the source of the River Tees.

There is also a children's play area and you can book exclusive use of the swimming pool in the village, ideal for children. There is the George and Dragon in Garrigill and various other pubs and restaurants in nearby Nenthead and Alston.

“Beautiful peaceful cosy holiday home.”

Reviewed 3 Aug 2016

We can't express enough just how lovely this holiday cottage is. We wanted to be away from everything, so we could just spend quality time with our kids, and that's what we got. The cottage is in a very small little village with one shop and one pub. The pub does amazing food all home cooked. There is no mobile phone signal but don't let that put you off. The cottage itself is gorgeous, loads of room and the owners absolutely provide you with nearly everything you need to have a relaxing stay. The kids loved playing in the garden with the games that are provided, watching wild bunnies hopping around and listening to the birds and sheep. The cottage is ideally located for walking on the Pennine way we did 28 miles whilst there for four days and the views are to die for. Would definitely recommend walking to the local waterfall ashgill force and going to high force. The miners arms pub in nenthead is also very welcoming and food is delicious.
