Description

Casa Sampo is perfect for families or couples who want a relaxing place to stay or for walkers and climbers who want to explore El Chorro, or walk the new Camino Del Rey. We are situated in a pretty quiet valley surrounded by Olive, Lemon and Orange trees. A great base for many outdoor activities, exploring rural Andalucia or the beaches of the Costa Del Sol but removed from the hustle and bustle of the Costa. There is ample space inside or outside to relax and unwind. Enjoy the lovely views, cool off in the private pool or just relax under the large covered terrace.

Good road and rail links nearby to make travelling around easy. Take the train to Malaga, a surprising city with its cafe culture, home of Picasso and lovely beaches all within walking distance of each other. Drive to historic Ronda, pretty Mijas or ancient Antequera, or explore the wonderful National Park of El Chorro with its beautiful turquoise lakes. Sit back and enjoy a barbecue and the stars, or the twinkling

Location description from owner

The Andalucia region

The Guadalhorce Valley is one of the greenest and prettiest in Andalucia with it´s Olive, Lemon and Orange Groves. The beautiful turquoise Lakes of El Chorro and its stunning gorge is only a 40 minute drive away. The new Camino Del Rey is open for those who are a bit more adventurous, booking in advance is necessary, please ask the owner about this. All the coastal area from Nerja to Gibraltar is within easy reach by car. Or drive inland to places such as Ronda, Mijas, Antequerra. Visit the Water Parks at Torremolinos or Mijas, Fuengirola Zoo (which is open at night during the summer) or the Safari Park. Drive inland towards Antequerra , take the train into Malaga and enjoy the cafe culture or make a visit to the Picasso museum or just enjoy the beaches. Ronda is only a 45 minute drive and well worth a days visit. Marbella and Puerta Banus are also within easy reach.

The biggest Butterfly Park in Europe opened in March 2011 near Benalmadena only a 30 minute drive away. Really beautiful and worth a visit.

30 minutes from the crags of El Chorro, during winter months when climbers are here I offer good home cooked meals for euro;10 per head, after a long day climbing come back to a good meal and then just relax.

Alora

Alora is a traditional white washed village or Pueblo with its narrow streets and steep hills. The Castle perched above the town looks wonderful at night when floodlit. Pizarra although not so pretty as Alora is very Spanish and has excellent bars and restaurants, no English type restaurants such as McDonalds!!!

There are many local festivals throughout the year, but some to note are the Easter Parades, Alora and Pizarra Ferias beginning of August, the festival of the Moon by candlelight in Carratraca beginning of September, and its big brother in Guaro, the Christmas lights in Malaga from beginning of December and New Years Eve in Coin which is a massive fancy dress street party.

“Idyllic location to get away from the real world”

Reviewed 25 Jul 2013

Just what I needed, the perfect getaway in beautiful surroundings to forget about everything and just enjoy the sunshine. Friendly hosts and dogs, couldn't do enough for me but never intruded on my space. Amenities are close enough with a car and authentic Spanish town, not angloflied at all. Will be returning and recommending to friends and family

So glad you were able to relax and unwind after a busy year. Kind regards from Casa Sampo

“Comfortable accommodation with friendly hosts”

Reviewed 17 Jun 2013

We had a great first week of May at Casa Sampo this year. The apartment is nice, spacey and the kitchen well equipped. Sue and Miguel are excellent hosts. We arrived around 9 pm and they made us feel welcome at once. They had bought some groceries we had asked and there was also a tasty homemade lemon cake waiting for us at the dinner table. Because we had planned various walks and other activities, we were away from the apartment most of the day, but it really felt like coming home every evening. We spent our last day around the house and the pool; the kids even swam, despite the still rather cold water. If the weather would have allowed it and if we would have had more time, I'd imagine we would have spent more lazy days like that. The kids (11 and 8) also loved playing with the dogs. The apartment is an excellent base for walks and excursions: we watched flamingos at the Fuente de Piedra and wolves at the Lobo Park, made walks in the lake area (watched dozens of vultures), the Sierra de las Nieves and El Torcal and we visited Ronda and Malaga (by train). Sue and Miguel, thanks again for your hospitality!

Many thanks for your review, glad you had such a good holiday. Kind regards Sue and Miguel (Mafuta and Mulungo)
