Description

Dear Holiday Maker

Welcome to 2 Percy Cottages, our Northumberland home that we bought from the Duke of Northumberland in 2013. If you want a fantastic 3 bedroom, Georgian, self-catering holiday let and perfect home away from home for couples, families and dog lovers this is it.

It's only a one minute walk from Alnwick Castle & Gardens, Alnwick town centre and Hulne Park's 3,000 acres of woodland. The fabulous beaches of Bamburgh and Low Newton, boat trips to the Farne Islands, Lindisfarne and the totally unique Chillingham Castle are only short drives away.

As you'll see from our reviews, this is not just a business for us, it's our second home so we've included home comforts not often found in a self-catering holiday let. These include super comfy furniture (go ahead and tuck your feet under), lots of ipod docks, Wifi, a separate gluten free toaster and even a dog bed and crate for your 4-legged family members.

For those chill out days or evenings you'll love

For those chill out days or evenings you'll love the convenience of having two spacious lounges. Enjoy a wood burning fire in the newly rediscovered inglenook in the grown up lounge. Grab a book or magazine from our wide selection and relish a few hours of peace and quiet while the kids are entertained by one of the nearly 100 titles of dvd/videos available in the second, family lounge. We've also supplied games, puzzles and a few indoor and outdoor toys.

Safety gates at the top and bottom of the staircase protect your children from falling down and dogs from climbing up. The garden is also very secure with 2 gated areas and an automatically closing door protecting little ones from escaping. The back passage off Baliffgate is a shared common access and useful when returning mucky dogs from walks. On that note, there is an extra cleaning charge of £25 for your four legged friend. Please let me know when you are enquiring if you will be bringing your dog as this needs to be added on manually.

We renovated Percy Cottage with a new bright kitchen with everything you'll ever need, a new master ensuite with shower, gas fire, wood burner, lots of storage and a handy back porch for coats and boots. In keeping with the age of the property we reinstated some original Georgian features like ceiling roses, chandeliers and the fire surrounds.

Almost all of the art in the house are my original works, many depicting scenes from the local area.

For your beach days we provide you with portable chairs, a windbreak and cool box with all your picnic plates and cutlery. For rainy days there are umbrellas and wellington overshoes (let's hope you don't need them.)

In any season you'll also enjoy your own enclosed outdoor space with BBQ and seating for six. We've even planted a herb garden so you can pick your own!

PARKING: probably the most asked question. There is plenty of free on-street parking across the road and around the corner from the cottage. Many guests bring more than one car even in peak season and they have always said the parking was fine. For loading and unloading you can even pull up on the cobbles right outside the front door.

SPECIAL OCCASIONS: Over Christmas and New Year we'll make sure you have a tree and decorations to make it feel festive. Percy Cottage is perfect for weddings and events at Alnwick Castle, Gardens or Treehouse as all are only a short walk away - no need for a taxi!

If you have any questions about the property or even want some suggestions on

** dog walking beaches

** what to do with the little ones on rainy days

** gluten free eating

My name is Yvonne and I am the owner, just contact me and I'll be happy to help. My family and I love Northumberland and we want you to as well.

Please note this property books from FRIDAY to FRIDAY. However, when it makes sense (e.g. half terms) we will book Sat to Sat. Short breaks are sometimes available, depending on the season - it never hurts to ask!

Once you've experienced this bright, warm cottage you'll call it your Northumberland second home and want to return over and over again. And we'll happily welcome you back.

But don't just take my word for it, please read my reviews and better still the comments from the guest book that I've put in with the photographs.

Warm regards

Yvonne

Location description from owner

The England region

Northumberland has been a battle ground between England and Scotland for centuries. The majestic landscape and miles of sandy beaches are riddled with historic and imposing castles.

Alnwick

Alnwick is a beautiful, historic town and was recently named the best town to live in Britain (2013). Alnwick has become one of the country's top tourist destinations with its spectacular gardens, one of the largest treehouses in Europe and Alnwick Castle which was featured in the Harry Potter films.

Alnwick is roughly half way between Berwick and Newcastle, making a great base from which to explore the coastline and imposing castles of Bamburgh, Dunstanburgh and the Lindisfarne Priory on Holy Island. Just a short drive away is Seahouses where visitors can take boats to the Farne Islands a favourite site for bird watchers. My favourite new recommendation is Chillingham Castle - privately owned, totally unique & haunted!

“A smart 'home from home' with plenty to do from the doorstep.”

Reviewed 6 May 2015

Percy cottage is a very smart, bright, comfortable and spacious property with so much to do from the doorstep. Less than 5 minutes walk to Alnwick castle, the lovely old town with theatre/cinema, beautiful Hulne Park, country and river walks too..oh, and the wonderful second hand bookshop in old Alnwick station! We found so much to see and do in the surrounding area. Would highly recommend this quality cottage as a base. Lots of tourist information, maps, walks etc within property which was also very helpful.

“Great week in Alwick”

Reviewed 15 Oct 2014

Percy Cottages are ideally located for seeing all in Alnwick which in itself a great town to visit. Very friendly owners and cottage finished to a good standard and good instructions and information in the property, ideal break away

“Best place in Alnwick”

Reviewed 17 Aug 2014

We've visited Northumberland many times and wholeheartedly this is the best place we've stayed. The place is immaculately clean, perfectly positioned to get around, has a lovely courtyard garden with BBQ that is a rare for an in-town rental, easy parking and lots of living space. On that last point - we couldn't believe how much we appreciated having the second lounge especially as it was filled with magazines and books for the whole family! It is evident that this is the owner's second home and not just a holiday let because it felt like that for us too the moment we walked in the door. Yvonne was extremely welcoming and answered all of my emails promptly and told us about a few places even we hadn't discovered yet.

“Home away from home”

Reviewed 12 Jan 2014

Beautiful character cottage in a perfect central location to explore the historical town of Alnwick - all within walking distance (the castle is just a few minutes walk). Close to stores and the farmers market to buy groceries. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for a cottage that is warm, cosy, spotlessly clean and fully equipped - a home away from home.
