Description

Villa Azure is an impressive modern villa with a large 52m2 infinity pool set on a hillside terrace in what we believe to be the most attractive and private location in the Chania area. As the name suggests, Villa Azure has outstanding views over the sparkling blue seas of Souda Bay to the north, and rich green valleys of olive trees and vineyards to the spectacular White Mountains in the south. Tucked away at the end of an unmade road, and hidden by olive, cypress and pine trees, Villa Azure is ideal for those seeking a luxurious hideaway that is nevertheless only a short distance from the sandy beaches, waterfront tavernas, and many amenities that the pretty seaside resorts of Almyrida and Kalives have to offer.

The thoughtful English and Dutch owners, have carefully designed Villa Azure in order to incorporate modern facilities and comforts with traditional Cretan building materials such as local cypress wood for the high vaulted living room ceiling and outside pergolas, marble

The thoughtful English and Dutch owners, have carefully designed Villa Azure in order to incorporate modern facilities and comforts with traditional Cretan building materials such as local cypress wood for the high vaulted living room ceiling and outside pergolas, marble for the poolside bar, fireplace, and window ledges, and the beautiful creamy stone that comes from the nearby village of Gavalohori which has been used for the kitchen archway, columns, barbecue area, boundary walls, and flag stone paving. The villa’s main living area has a modern and attractive open plan layout that stays cool in the summer and takes full advantage of the sea breezes and wonderful sea and mountain views. The furnishings throughout are of a high standard and Villa Azure has the comfortable feel of a well-equipped and very spacious home. In order to ensure total peace and privacy for each guest, none of the bedrooms share adjoining walls but every bedroom does have its own fully tiled en-suite shower room and air-conditioning unit. For the cooler nights at the start and end of the season, the a/c units also double up as heaters and there is under floor heating and a fireplace.

Further details indoors

Originally planned as a full-time home for the owners, the villa's many modern comforts include a fully fitted, very well equipped kitchen which includes stainless steel appliances such as: a gas hob, a built-in oven, a microwave oven, a dishwasher; a separate utility room with washing machine and an iron and ironing board; a hairdryer, ceiling fans, mosquito screens, white aluminium doors, window frames, and shutters. The water is heated either by solar panel or a back-up immersion heater. Free internet access is available at the villa.

The majority of the villa is set on one level with only the games room / 5th sleeping area on the lower level, Villa Azure is incredibly versatile and absolutely ideal for everyone, from the elderly and less abled, to romantic couples, and large families or groups of varying ages. Parents can enjoy some quiet time whilst children and teenagers amuse themselves in the games room and separate lounge area which has couches, a 42 inch flat screen TV, a satellite box, a DVD player, surround sound system, a CD player, a play station, a table football, a ping pong table, and a selection of DVD's, play station games, card games and books. Two single beds are also located on the lower level for additional guests.

Despite the light and airy interiors, Villa Azure's guests will spend the majority of their holiday relaxing on the outdoor terraces, all of which enjoy gorgeous, uninterrupted views. Special emphasis has been has been paid to the pool terrace and dining terrace where you can chill out on a sun-lounger or dine al-fresco in total privacy, with a choice of sun or shade. The 12m x 5m pool has an infinity edge that looks down the valley of olive groves and vineyards to the White Mountains and Souda Bay. The pool also features an unusual swim-up marble counter top bar with in-pool stools and a pergola covered sunken bar serving area with a sink – perfect for a long, cool drink at anytime! For those food lovers amongst you, close to the pool is the stone barbecue, and forno (traditional oven), and the pergola covered dining area which has been furnished with a beech wood table with a pretty cream and beige marble top and 12 comfortable dining chairs.

Three sets of extra wide double sliding doors lead out to the dining terrace from the living area and kitchen. An outside staircase leads up to the roof terrace has sun at all hours of the day and which provides for sheltered sunbathing from the occasional early / end of season winds. It is also the perfect vantage point for watching the fantastic sunsets, the lights twinkling from the Akrotiri peninsula, and the evening ferry passing by on its way to Athens.

Further details outdoors

Set in private gardens which are romantically lit at night and bordered by grass, natural stone walls and olive trees, the landscaping at Villa Azure is due to be completed in the Winter of 2009 and is therefore not yet reflected in the current photographs (as is the indoor games room). Flowerbeds around the property will be planted with oleander, Washingtonian palms, bougainvillea, gardenia, birds of paradise and citrus trees. A gated driveway connects to green, hilly countryside with a network of small tracks that are idyllic for walkers. All in all, this enchanting villa is an impressive escape for those seeking privacy and seclusion, breathtaking views, and easy access to a wide choice of sites and amenities.

The Chania Prefecture region

Crete has everything you that could possibly want from a holiday: soaring mountains that are snow capped from November to June, many great walking trails including Europe's deepest gorge, ancient archaeological sites and Minoan palaces, quaint villages, sparkling clear blue seas with tavernas serving freshly caught fish, golden beaches, glorious wild flowers in the Spring, and a variety of delicious foods which are all made from healthy home grown produce.

As incredible as the island is, it is the Cretan people who will make your holiday truly memorable. Descendants of the Minoan's, one of Europe's earliest civilizations, and shaped by centuries of struggle against oppression, the Cretans are as rugged as the mountains, fiercely independent but passionately friendly.

Villa Azure is located in the heart of The Apokoronas Region just east of the beautiful town of Chania. With its stunning Venetian harbour, quayside bars and restaurants, what better place to relax and watch the world go by. In the narrow streets behind Chania's harbour you will find tavernas, bars, the famous covered market, and many local shops selling handicrafts, textiles, jewellery and hand made ceramics. Visit 'Leather Lane' for outstanding hand made leather bargains.

The climate of Crete is a temperate Mediterranean climate and the weather is characterized by long hot, dry summers and mild winters. The Spring can be warm and sunny during the day but still have cooler evenings and is perfect for walking, birdwatching and looking at the wild flowers. All in all Crete is absolutely perfect for your Villa holiday.

Almyrida

The beach at Kera 1.85km on the main dirt road from the villa, but much less as the crow flies. It is a quiet cove like beach as there are no sun-beds or cafes here therefore it is ideal for picnics. The water is shallow and there is a choice of pebbles or sand. The lovely village of Almyrida is 2.8km from Villa Azure, and is built around a pretty crescent shaped sandy beach, with a small fishing harbour at the eastern end. The beach is very shallow and safe, which is good news if you have children or are not a strong swimmer. Lining the beach are 7 excellent tavernas, 10 café/bars, 2 bakeries, a wonderful jewellery shop, 5 mini-markets, 3 gift shops,a pharmacy, an organic fruit and vegetable shop with a deli counter, a butcher's shop, and an off-license. Also in Almyrida there is a scuba diving office, a water sports centre which rents out kayaks, windsurfers and catamarans, and Villas Crete Holidays for tourist information, boat trips, horse riding, guided walking tours, and guided coach excursions.

A few minutes by car from the villa, there are a huge variety of archaeological sites and traditional villages with wonderful tavernas. There is also an interesting selection of small craft centres and museums, including glass blowing in Kokkino Horio, lace makers in Gavalohori, and silk makers in Kalamitsi. For those of you looking for even more activity, the historic town of Chania is only 30 minutes away by car.

Cooking classes and wine tasting set at a local winery can be taken by those of you who are interested. Guided walks led by experts in mountaineering and/or flora and fauna can also be arranged. For those of you who prefer to venture out on your own, a copy of the guide book "Crete on the Road" by Frankie Miles comes with every villa. The book contains detailed directions to many well known and hidden sites, opening times and prices for all attractions, taverna recommendations, and the only existing map of the National Highway showing the exits and entrances.
