If you prefer to drive, you are only 4 minutes by car to the sandy beaches, and many shops and tavernas in Almyrida.

Further details indoors

Villa Orocco has been stylishly furnished and fitted to meet expectations of high modern standards. The artistic British owners have put a special emphasis on comfort, quality and romance, having named the villa after the pier where they were married. The romantic theme is evident in the sumptuous red coloured corner seating unit in the living room, co-ordinating arm chair and wall prints, wrought iron beds with Tempurpedic space foam mattresses in the bedrooms, gorgeous kitchen counters and breakfast bar made from black marble with silver and blue flecks, and even a 3 seater swing bench on the dining terrace. The many modern amenities include a flat screen TV, Satellite TV, a DVD player, a ceramic hob and built-in oven, a dishwasher, a washing machine, a microwave, and air conditioning units in all the bedrooms and the living room. The a/c units also double up as heaters for the cooler nights at the start and end of the season. The water is heated by either solar panel or a back-up immersion heater. WIFI internet access is available for up to 5 devices but air-time cards will need to be purchased locally or from our resort representative.

Further details outdoors

The beautiful panoramic views and the gorgeous infinity pool are two of the villa's main features. There is a choice of sun or shade on the well furnished outside areas which include a covered dining terrace, and a spacious fully tiled roof terrace which, for obvious reasons, is also known as the sun terrace. The intimate pool area includes a barbeque area with its own mini-kitchen that has natural stone columns and a red tiled roof. The living room and bedrooms have sliding double doors which lead out onto the wrap around verandah and pool terrace, below which the land drops away from the property ensuring fantastic views. Poolside relaxation continues under the stars on the warm summer evenings that Crete is famous for. Lights twinkle in the distance from the Akrotiri Peninsula and from the ferries in Souda Bay that are setting off on their nightly journey to Athens.

Location description from manager

The Chania Prefecture region

Crete has everything you that could possibly want from a holiday: soaring mountains that are snow capped from November to June, many great walking trails including Europe's deepest gorge, ancient archaeological sites and Minoan palaces, quaint villages, sparkling clear blue seas with tavernas serving freshly caught fish, golden beaches, glorious wild flowers in the Spring, and a variety of delicious foods which are all made from healthy home grown produce.

As incredible as the island is, it is the Cretan people who will make your holiday truly memorable. Descendants of the Minoan's, one of Europe's earliest civilizations, and shaped by centuries of struggle against oppression, the Cretans are as rugged as the mountains, fiercely independent but passionately friendly.

Villa Orocco is located in the heart of The Apokoronas Region just east of the beautiful town of Chania. With its stunning Venetian harbour, quayside bars and restaurants, what better place to relax and watch the world go by. In the narrow streets behind Chania's harbour you will find tavernas, bars, the famous covered market, and many local shops selling handicrafts, textiles, jewellery and hand made ceramics. Visit 'Leather Lane' for outstanding hand made leather bargains.

The climate of Crete is a temperate Mediterranean climate and the weather is characterized by long hot, dry summers and mild winters. The Spring can be warm and sunny during the day but still have cooler evenings and is perfect for walking, birdwatching and looking at the wild flowers. All in all Crete is absolutely perfect for your Villa holiday.

Almyrida

Aspro is a very quaint and traditional hamlet set on terraces on the side of a hill overlooking Souda Bay. Aspro is a very green village as the surrounding countryside is covered in olives groves and conifers. There are many off the beaten track walking trails leading from Aspro. The lovely village of Almyrida is only 3 minutes by car from Villa Orocco, and is built around a pretty crescent shaped sandy beach, with a small fishing harbour at the eastern end. The beach is very shallow and safe, which is good news if you have children or are not a strong swimmer. Lining the beach are 7 excellent tavernas, 10 café/bars, 2 bakeries, a wonderful jewellery shop, 5 mini-markets, 4 gift shops,a pharmacy, an organic fruit and vegetable shop with a deli counter, a butcher's shop, and an off-license. Also in Almyrida there is a scuba diving office, a water sports centre which rents out kayaks, windsurfers and catamarans, and Villas Crete Holidays for tourist information, boat trips, horse riding, guided walking tours, and guided coach excursions.

A few minutes by car from the villa, there are a huge variety of archaeological sites and traditional villages with wonderful tavernas. There is also an interesting selection of small craft centres and museums, including glass blowing in Kokkino Horio, lace makers in Gavalohori, and silk makers in Kalamitsi. For those of you looking for even more activity, the historic town of Chania is only 35 minutes away by car.

Cooking classes and wine tasting set at a local winery can be taken by those of you who are interested. Guided walks led by experts in mountaineering and/or flora and fauna can also be arranged. For those of you who prefer to venture out on your own, a copy of the guide book "Crete on the Road" by Frankie Miles comes with every villa. The book contains detailed directions to many well known and hidden sites, opening times and prices for all attractions, taverna recommendations, and the only existing map of the National Highway showing the exits and entrances.
