Very Good

“Great location for a multi-generational family holiday.”

Reviewed 2 Oct 2017

We had a lovely holiday at the Quinta da Ilda. We were a party of 10-12 (some only came for the weekend) with 20 month-old twins, three octogenarians, and two generations between. Jenny (the owner): Jenny was an excellent host – meeting us on arrival and explaining the details and quirks of the house. She also arrived midweek to clean the villa and change linen – and had a really friendly manner chatting to different members of our group. She was always available by phone/email/text when we needed her (e.g. to book a taxi back to the airport). She also provided plenty of information on activities, places to visit, and restaurants to try. Villa grounds: The villa is secluded and ideal for relaxing and socialising. We used the unheated large pool several times daily and it was very clean. The grounds are spacious enough that people can spend time together or find their quiet spaces. There is also always somewhere in the sun, and somewhere in the shade with a breeze: which means everyone can be satisfied. The grounds are very attractive with quite a lot of birds. The electronic gates keep the property and grounds enclosed and private. Overview of the villa: The sitting room is on the same level as the pool – a few steps above the kitchen/dining area. There is a shower and WC directly off the sitting room which is ideal after swimming. The large kitchen is in the centre of the house and two bedrooms (one twin, one double with a shower room between) are up a flight of stairs from the kitchen. In the hall leading off the kitchen there is a bathroom, two double bedrooms and a third room with twin beds. The sixth bedroom is through the twin room and up a flight of stairs, there is another shower room here and also an open space with an extra bed and Z-bed. Each bedroom had a large electric fan. The laundry room (Jenny’s domain – but with access to the washer if you need it) is also through the ground floor twin room (and down some stairs). Tips: The villa is outside the towns of Almancil and Loulé so access to a car is really advantageous. Loulé is a lovely market town and worth a visit. The nearest beach is at Quarteira about 9km away (15 minutes by car). If you decide to use taxis instead of a car then make sure you have the villa’s GPS co-ordinates so they can find you. For grocery shopping there is a good Lidl easily found just as you go into Loulé. Almancil has an Aldi and an Apolonia (much more expensive but with more branded/UK items if you need them) plus other local supermarkets. Train journeys are cheap and Loulé station is very near. The station is not in Loulé but down the hill from the villa, a 20 minute walk away (5 minute drive). Trains here go to Faro (with onward connections to the Eastern Algarve ending at Vila Real de Santo Antonio) or to Lagos in the west. If you want a walk to a snack bar/cafe there are two within 1km of the villa. To get to them from the villa: turn left, up the hill, and follow the path across a bridge over the dual carriageway at the end of the path turn either (i) left and in two minutes you’ll be at Café Amoreiras (850m, 10mins walk) or (ii) right and walk down Estr. de Vale de Éguas where you’ll find another snack bar (we didn’t try this one) - it’s a similar distance. About 200m further on down Estr. de Vale de Éguas is the excellent (but not cheap) Restaurante Malveiro. There is a recycling and general waste collection area on Estr. de Vale de Éguas 100m beyond Restaurante Malveiro. Finally, if you have any queries just ask Jenny and she’ll help you out.

“Home from home...but with a touch of luxury!”

This spacious home is bright, spacious, clean and beautifully rustic! I felt at home immediately! The pool is a good size and there is plenty of space for a very large family or several groups of friends. The grounds are clean and well kept. It is very secure and quiet. The kitchen has all you need to prepare and cook food and the outside dinning area is perfect for alfresco meals during the visit. I am returning with my family as soon as I can!

“Excellent, would come again”

I definitely recommend this villa. The pool is lovely, the kitchen is well equipped and there is plenty of room for everyone. It's an 8 minute drive to 3 supermarkets. 15 min drive to Vale Do lobo beach and there's an outdoor bbq. The owner is very good with communication and speaks excellent English. We sat outside for dinner every night.
