“Beautifully appointed and beautiful location”

Reviewed 29 Apr 2014

The cottage is beautifully furnished, well thought out and tastefully done. The setting is just as beautiful with a stunning view across the Firth. Stunning, comfortable and great place to stay. Can't wait to return.

“Exactly what we needed, relaxing, comfortable - perfect!!”

Captain's Cottage is ideal for a short break or a longer holiday. The cottage is beautifully decorated and kitted out with all the essentials plus some luxuries such as the wood burner. The attention to detail in the accommodation is fantastic and we couldn't have asked for anything else. We left feeling thoroughly relaxed and refreshed. The binoculars are a lovely touch.

“At the heart of the village, but secluded.”

This was a great place to relax, very comfortable, easily managed and easy for the beach and the village, but very private when you want it to be. We may have been influenced by the fantastic weather but no complaints, and the owners were really helpful and friendly. Four generations of us from 5 months to 85 years were able to feel at home. The beaches are idyllic and it's very handy for the hills. Fridge could have been bigger as others have mentioned, but not a problem really when you get the hang of it. We'd definitely go back (if they'd have us) as it's a perfect halfway meeting point for the family between Manchester and Dundee.

“Wonderful cottage in a lovely beachside location.”

My family has just returned from a one week stay in this lovely cottage. What a find - the internet has its uses afterall ! We had the most enjoyable week there ( helped of course by the super weather ) and didnt want to leave. Our party consisted of 2 adults, 2 teens and 1 elderly lady with limited vision and mobility. The single level layout and facility to drive the car right up to the door was perfect for her and I would highly recommend the cottage for anyone with similar issues. The cottage itself was beautifully furnished with a seaside theme, sparkling clean with comfy beds and had everything we needed for our stay. The excellent welcome pack included a lovely bottle of wine which we enjoyed on our first evening as we watched the sunset from the deck overlooking the beach ! Allonby itself is a quiet , friendly little village with all you need for everyday ( shop, post office, chip shop, cafes etc ) and there are lots of lovely places to visit within easy driving distance. We especially liked Cockermouth ( nice, independent shops ), Whitehaven, Keswick ( do visit the Pencil Museum - our 2 teens loved it ) Grasmere ( try the famous gingerbread from the tiny little bakery ) and Bowness on Windermere ( a trip on the lake is a must ). The beach just at the door is a great bonus with lots of nice walks and as it was so warm, we were able to swim in the sea and then just nip back to the cottage to dry off and change. The cottage was stocked with books, dvds and games which we sadly didnt get to use as the good weather kept us outdoors. We also longed to light the wonderful looking woodburning stove but will have to wait for a winter visit for that experience. The owner is a lovely friendly lady who goes out of her way to ensure the comform of her guests and I know that we will definitely be visiting Captains Cottage again for sure.

“Everything you could wish for.”

Lovely location right on beach. Everything was as new and the fire was incredible.Decorative sea touches were lovely and bright. The sunsets are incredible. Handy for visiting the Lakes and while we were there Silloth had a heritage fair so look out for that. The Toy soldier museum in Silloth is good for a wet day. Welcome pack very welcome!Super views out of picture window of the coast.

“Beautiful surroundings and a cosey cottage.”

Really lovely cottage right next to the sea. Nicely finished and had everything you need. Nice pubs and great park for kids in walking distance. Great for short or long breaks.

“Lovely modern cottage with a great location”

Reviewed 4 Feb 2013

We stayed with friends and our 7 year old daughter. The cottage has a lovely open plan living area which was really cosy with the log burning stove, The decor is fresh and modern with some nice traditional touches. The bedrooms are spacious with a bright airy feel. The bathroom is very modern with both a bath and a separate shower. The local area is lovely and the beach side location couldn't be better. A highlight was walking down to the waters edge with mugs of mulled wine. Over all we thoroughly enjoyed our time in this lovely cottage and would definitely stay here again. Be sure to visit "The Codfather" the chip shop only a couple of minutes walk away. Great fish and chips, but it closes early so check opening times..

“Charming cosy seaside cottage”

We enjoyed our stay at the nautical captins cottage, it was a breath of fresh air . Its very close to the beach and you can enjoy lovely long walks. The cottage has been very nicely done and was modern yet with a warm cosy feel. There are nice little shops nearby and a park next door which even the adults enjoyed .

“Fantastic, beautiful, cosy cottage right by the sea”

We had a fantastic time at captains cottage! We found the cottage to be well equipped and beautifully decorated and very spacious for all the family! We loved the quirky sea side theme. The cottage was immaculate and the bedrooms were roomy and the beds very comfy. A short stroll to the beach, collected some driftwood and enjoyed a lovely evening in front of the wood burner! Thanks very much for this home from home stay!
