Estoi Palace - Just one of many interesting sites you can visit in the Algarve.

The romantic tastes of the last owner from one of the most distinguished families of the Algarve nobility, inspired him to build a country house surrounded by gardens in a beautiful natural setting. Rather than turning to the medieval models favoured by the revivalists of the period (first half of the 19th century) as exemplified by the Royal Pena Palace in Sintra, he opted for a style combining neo-baroque and neo-rococo elements.

The palace is a huge building, its exterior partially covered with tiles bearing floral decoration and depicting a variety of scenes. The decoration on the plaster ceilings is the finest in the Algarve. There is a chapel, and two tea pavilions.

In Albufeira and Lagos, you can go to see bull fighting held, on Saturday afternoons a Portugese bullfight. Unlike the classical Spanish Bullfight, the Portugese do not kill the Bull in the ring - they stab them in the back with a bunch of arrows. Not everyone's idea of interest or enjoyment but many consider it the ultimate machismo challenges between man and beast and very popular with the Portugese.

There are many other things to do, places to see and attactions to visit during your stay on holiday at Vila Cordelia. Vila Cordelia has leaflets, maps and most of the information you may require to plan your day out.

My family arrived at the villa and were disappointed from the outset, the description stated a 4 bed private villa with heated pool. We were directed into what was no more than a converted garage block which was grubby and in need of a full refurbish. Cooking facilities were available, yet the equipment for cooking on or eating off were to say the least sparse and what resembled tat from a car boot sale. “The private use pool” was restricted to between 0800-1200 and 1400-2000 and was supposed to be heated, yet no conventional heating system was evident. The tennis court was damaged and in our opinion dangerous, steel pins stuck up 100mm above the court and the posts broken off, so no means of raising the height of the net. The villa is described as being relaxing, yet the owner decided to try and cut the grass whilst we were trying to relax by the pool. This was the last straw so we made our exit to a proper villa with the facilities which should have been with Villa Cordillia. There was also no WIFI facility as described in the details.

Owner's reply: The content of this review is untruthful the garden cottage has never been stated as having more the two large double bedrooms each with private ensuite there is a fully equipted kitchen with all mod-cons the villa apartment also has two double bedrooms with ensuite if a letting is made to a larger party and costs more money.(see advertising) To say the cottage which a converted garage is untrue it is a refurbished portugese Casa. Again untruthful and is very clear this statement is made by a person with no knowledge of Portugal.I can also confirm the writer of this review checked in very late on the 26th October and advised on the morning of the 27th at 8.30 am they had already booked an alternative villa this was a remarkable between the hours of 11.30pm and before 8,30 am the following morning if this arrangement had not been made before they arrived late night on the 26th The truth of this did in a round about way come out when before leaving the husband MR N said he was sorry for booking in a rush and that his wife had seen another villa which she preferred which they had made arrangement to move to on the 27th The total misrepresentation of this review is due to according to our agreed contract, a cancelation at such a late stage did not give a right refund of the rental cost for a eight night stay and only the damage deposit was returned. Even that was a nightmare as they could not give their bank account number correctly or for some time give the name of the account as required by the bank, to make the refund of the damage deposit possible This review is a gross misrepresentation of the truth a falsh report maliciously writtern and will be the subject of legal opinion. I would suggest the community be very careful in dealing with any future enquiry from a Mr R Nutbourne or could this superfluous person be also Mr Tommy Pepper.?

“It offers generous quiet and welcoming hospitality with the most wonderful extensive grounds for all ages to enjoy”

It offers a variety of activities and because it is not on the coast you get a l taste of real Portugal. Ron and Claudette go out of their way to help and aid in any way. The beacheswith wonderful views, sand and rock pools are only 20-30 minutes away. Equally exploring the nearby villages, markets and restaurants either by car or bike ( which are provided) makes another wonderful trip;if you want a day at home the grounds and swimming pool offers huge areas to play, relax and enjoy.

Owner's reply: We are so glad you enjoyed your holiday at Villa Cordelia thank you for your review of your stay with kind regards Ronald & Claudette

“the whole family had an amazing time in the winter sunshine”

Reviewed 5 Mar 2012

We had a delightful stay at the villa's guest accommodation, everything was clean and in good condition, a lot of thought had been put into the layout and equipment provided to make our stay easy. The accommodation easily coped with our family party of four couples. Each bedroom had its own ensuite, some with showers and baths too. The garden was very interesting with many fruit bearing trees, although some of them like the almonds had finished their season there was much fruit that was ripe, including grapefruit, pomegranate, carob and orange - we couldnt quite reach the avocados! The pool though cool was refreshing to swim in and very clean, it was of a good size for lengths with a deep end of about ten feet. The patio and terrace areas were tiled and very warm and sunny during the day for relaxation and eating. Also provided was use of bicycles for exploring the village and surrounding countryside, where the roads were quiet with few cars. To bring in the new year we celebrated in a wonderful restaurant. There are many reasonably priced and very friendly restaurants nearby with very good tasty food. I would definitely recommend Villa Cordelia and are already planning to go back next year.

We had a fabulous time at Villa Cordelia so relaxing out of the way of the crowds the ideal place to hill and unwind but not so out of the way we coudn't find nice beaches and restaurants and shopping we only stayed for one week but did so much and still came home feeling refreshed, The owners were always on hand to help out and advise on directions and reccomend places to see. The pool was fabulous and the gardens beautiful. A little bit of heaven.

“Beautiful gardens, stunning views, superb accommodation, great hosts”

Reviewed 2 Jun 2011

A fantastic find for our annual family holiday (dad aged 89, my 2 sisters, my partner and myself) The large grounds meant there was plenty of space for each of us to do our own thing, whether walking through the gardens, sitting by the pool, or sunbathing on the balcony. The views from the apartment are stunning and I could have spent every day just sitting there. We booked the garden cottage and the apartment for the week and both of the accommodations were beautifully presented and really well equipped. Our hosts Ronald and Claudette ensured we had everything we needed. Ronald stayed up to welcome us when we arrived from Faro Airport at 2am and got some breakfast shopping in for the morning. Now that is a great service...

Owner's reply: Hello thank you for your review so glad you enjoyed your stay maybe we will see you again with kind regards Ronald Villa Cordelia
