The East Anglia region
The East Anglia / Suffolk
Aldeburgh is a small seaside town situated on the East Suffolk Heritage Coast and is a well-known and popular holiday destination.
Other notable places of interest include Southwold (with its famous Sole Bay Adnams brewery and exciting trips aboard the coastal voyager), Dunwich, Walberswick (location of the world crabbing competition) and Sutton Hoo, the Anglo Saxon burial ground.
The world famous RSPB bird reserve at Minsmere is close by.
The Aldeburgh area
Aldeburgh is famous for its Music and Arts Festival founded by Benjamin Britten and is held in June every year at Snape Maltings Concert Hall. The Aldeburgh Carnival and Regatta is held every year in August. On the beach is the 'Scallop Sculpture' by the artist Maggie Hambling.
Located on the River Alde, the town is notable for its Blue Flag shingle beach and fisherman's huts where freshly caught fish is sold daily. Visitors to Aldeburgh can enjoy picturesque walks along the beach, an excellent range of restaurants and cafes and of course the award winning fish and chip shops. Aldeburgh also has its own Cinema and Theatre and a golf course and The Aldeburgh Yacht Club.
Nearby in Thorpeness is the Meare, a shallow lake with boats to hire and islands to explore; great fun for children of all ages.
A perfect base for golfing, sailing and coastal walking, and visiting the RSPB reserve at nearby Minsmere.

"Excellent all round"
We had a great holiday in this wonderful area taken at the height of the heatwave, but where Aldeburgh was much cooler enabling comfortable access to all the great places to visit. The cottage is also very comfortable with the benefits of easy access to the town and beach and a private garden area, the only interruption to the tranquility being the very vocal gulls. In general, I think my title says it all, but I need to add how friendly and helpful Elaine (owner) was and how well the cottage was supplied, equipped and fitted. Hopefully the cottage will be available when we return to Suffolk.

"WHAT A LOVELY HOUSE, LOVELY HOLIDAY AND LOVELY OWNERS"
We had such a great few days. We arrived to a very sweet, incredibly well equipped house, and some lovely treats left for us to enjoy in the form of wine and chocolates. The children thought it was marvellous too. There were games and toys left for them to play with. The garden was a peaceful little sun-trap, great for a bbq or morning coffee in the fresh air. The bedrooms were airy and the whole place was very spick and span. It was just a skip around the corner to the high street and beach. All in all we would highly recommend it. Great value and a lovely experience.
