Location description from owner

The Tuscany region

The Tuscan Region of Italy is well known for its warm balmy summers, beautiful countryside, rolling hills, mouth - watering food, and of course its towns and villages, rich with mediaeval architecture…

The Garfagnana region of Tuscany, often known as its 'Green Lung' is situated away from the milling crowds that can often be found at the most famous Tuscan locations and is totally unspoilt, remaining untouched by tourism.
The scenery is spectacular, green and mountainous with views of both the Apuane and Appenine mountains at every turn…And, due to the altitude whilst the weather can be very hot, it is always pleasantly cool for sleeping…
The food is usually home made, using home grown produce, and is typically simple and extremely tasty. Prices here remain very reasonable due to the fact that food is prepared with the locals, and not tourists in mind…The local wine is cheap and surprisingly drinkable!
The pace of life is slow and peaceful – spend your days enjoying secluded picnics, swimming in rivers, or watching locals play bocce or 'cheese throwing'. Visit hundreds of ancient hill top villages, or relax at home basking in stunning scenery.
For 'townie' days, visit the mediaeval towns of Barga, Lucca, Castelnuovo, with Pisa and Florence within easy reach too…

Albiano

Situated in Albiano, with stunning views of Barga, and the mountains beyond, this property is a perfect retreat, less than a 5 minute drive from the Mediaeval town of Barga, with its hilly windy cobbled streets, duomos, 10th Century cathedral and ancient architecture. Barga is also renowned in the area for its good quality, but reasonably priced restaurants. There are often outdoor concerts/plays performed many times free of charge with performances ranging from Rock and Pop, to Jazz and the Classics.

Within easy walking distance, is the village of Albiano with its good restaurant, and local shop/bar.Barga itself is circa 1 hour 15 mins from Pisa, 1 hr 40 mins from Florence;50 minutes from the beautiful walled mediaeval city of Lucca and close to the National Parks of the Apuane Alps. Hilltop villages abound, and exploring can be either townie or totally rural - the choice is yours, if you can tear yourselves away from the house!

“Relaxing and fantastic view”

Reviewed 8 Nov 2015

Casa Roc offered everything that we wanted for a wonderfully relaxing holiday. The house is lovely and offered a very comfortable stay for our family of five. We really enjoyed the outside eating area especially for breakfast while enjoying the beautiful views. The pool and terrace are a very good size. We also ate a couple of times at La Terraza, a local restaurant just a short walk into the small village. The owners were very friendly and offered a good choice of food. The pizza oven was open on a Saturday and Sunday so we made sure we returned for pizza and we were not disappointed. We felt it was a perfect location to also visit the surrounding area, with it being near to Lucca and Pisa. We have decided to return as we feel the house completely meets our needs for our next holiday and plan to visit different surrounding areas.

“Casa Roc”

Reviewed 5 Jul 2015

Casa Roc, Albiano One of the most striking things about this lovely villa is its idyllic location, on the edge of a hillside village with every window overlooking the garden, the valley and the ancient, typically Tuscan, hill town of Barga. But it doesn't end there. The villa itself is as depicted and has all the amenities we could possibly require. It is spacious, tastefully decorated and furnished and the kitchen is very well equipped. There is a pleasant outside seating area with stunning views and we enjoyed using the gas barbecue every evening and sitting outside until late. With such a setting, why would you wish to eat and drink elsewhere? The lovely pool, with in-built Jacuzzi, is of a good size with plenty of sunbathing space around, and in mid-June we had sunshine from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. There is off-road parking space. Wifi worked consistently. The small village of Albiano is a short walk away and has a restaurant. There is a very good Conad supermarket (the only such store for 40 miles or so), just a few miles away. Every trip does involve a short drive down a winding hillside road, but this is a very minor inconvenience and in some ways adds to the fun. Besides, without that there would be no fabulous views! There are lots of things to see and do in the area, from touring the mountains, to visiting historic villages and towns, including the incredibly well preserved Lucca and, of course, Pisa. The agents were available and most helpful when we needed them. As inveterate villa-hirers, we loved our time here and, although we have never in the past returned to the same place again, this will be an exception to our rule.

Thank you for your review. We also think this is a very special place! We are really glad you had a good time and hope to welcome you again! Lorraine
