Location description from owner

The Puglia region

Puglia is where the Italians on holiday - the deep south remains unspoilt. Miles of beaches, small hillside villages with marble streets unchanged since the middle ages. Perfect for families. Fantastic food and wine - about half the price of northern Italy. the southern Italians love children, they are welcome in even the smartest places. The area right by the sea is very hot in summer, often 40C, but drive just a few minutes' inland to the gently 500metre hills, and the temperature is a perfect 30C or so. Mild spring and Autumn, typically 20c, a heated pool such as our makes all the difference. There is a great Safari Park, markets, fascinating caves to visit and ancient buildings and cathedrals, all set in unspoit countryside.

There are literally hundreds of beaches within an hour's drive. The whole of the Adiratic coastline of the south, or cross to the Bay of Taranto, and another huge selection. There are more beaches than days of the year!

Alberobello

Alberobello is the Trulli Capital of Puglia. A listed World Hertiage site as over 3000 of the 5000 trulli still standing are in this town. there are only a couple of main streets. Park in the car park and walk around the beautiful, strange and mystical trulli. Alberobello is small enough that you can just nip in and out to collect food or visit a restaurant or the local shops, but big enough to offer a great choice. Just 5 minutes drive from the trulli. The beach is just 20 minutes' drive away acorss ancient olive groves.

Southern Italy is a mixture of traditional Catholic and traces of much older cultures. There are numerous Saints Days when statutes from a local church are paraded up and down the streets to great celebrations. There is a market every day in one of the nearby local towns,

Interaction with guest

I have an obsession about personal service, not just machines with endless tape recordings an options and waiting 20 minutes to be answered! I always make sure that I or my agents are available at the end of my mobile if needed. My motto is "personal holidays with personal service".

“Lovely modern trullo with a beautiful view”

Reviewed 18 Oct 2016

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the trullo. The service from Alison, the property manager was excellent! We took a chance on an October stay hoping the weather would hold and it got a bit chilly but Alison had someone out to turn on the under floor heating asap so the trullo stayed cozy and warm. Unfortunately the plan to hang out by the pool didn't materialize but we had some great walks around the country roads by lovely farms with spectacular views. We did a day trip to Matera and it's very close to Locorotondo and Martina Franca for meals. The kitchen was well outfitted and the laundry room convenient. We had same great meals at the following local restaurants in Alberobello - Trattoria Terra Madre (the best!), Agriturismo Masseria Catucci and L'Aratro. We would definitely recommend staying at Mark's trullo in Alberobello.

I am delighted that you enjoyed it anf hopefully we might hae you as a guest again at this or one of our other proeprties. Mark.

“Wonderful time in Puglia - Perfect trulli in most relaxing place”

Reviewed 25 Aug 2015

We had a wonderful time in Puglia and in particular at Mark's trullo Alto (the bigger one). It was exactly what we expected and we loved the quiet and relaxing atmosphere. All amenities were of good quality and we were happy to find the same standard as in his chalet in Klosters. We also found everything we needed for our little one (cuttlery, chair, bed - although you might want to consider an extra little mattress if your child is used to extra comfort) and in particular really appreciated the fact that there was a high chair available for him. The pool was perfect, we really appreciated that it was heated and our 2-year old couldn't get enough of it! We were really thankful for the mosquito nets, we felt comfortable sleeping with the windows open thanks to them. We didn't have to use the air con as the inside of the trullo was always very nice and cool even on the hotter days. Communicating with Alison and Chris (the local agents) was easy and we appreciated their reliability. Thanks to the photographic explanation on Mark's website we had no trouble finding the trullo even without GPS. Only downsides we found were the common indoor living/eating area. Luckily we had perfect weather and didn't use it at all but we thought if we had to dine around the small table or use the little couch/chairs as relaxing spots it wouldn't have been very comfortable for 5-6 people to share. The second thing was the internet connection that was unfortunately very poor. I have to mention this as my husband complained about it, as far as I am concerned I thought it rather nice to be disconnected :) This was however very minor and I hope the overall message still comes across as we really didn't miss a single thing when we were there! Actually we have already recommended the place to some of our friends :) We are thankful to Mark for sharing his nice place with us, we will for sure be back for a vacation in the future!

“A wonderful place to relax and come down”

Reviewed 30 Jun 2015

The Trullo is wonderful located, a quiet place with a Special view and a lovley (big) pool. A good place to start tours to the beaches, the nice little villages and towns. Starting from the Tullo you can make nice walking- or running tours. The best thing for us was, that near the Trullo are no other houses and no noisy streets (except the barking Dogs in the night you here nothing)

“Lovely Trullo, lovely area”

Beautiful trullo, refurbished really well with an amazing outside space and pool area. Very well equiped for self catering. The area is a perfect mix of town and country.

“Ein traumhafter Ort”

Reviewed 15 Jul 2014

“Gorgeous italian villa in relaxed & peaceful location”

Reviewed 3 Oct 2013

Gorgeous Italian villa with everything you need for a relaxed, chilled out holiday. We travelled with family & friends including a small child & we couldn't have asked for anything more. We've travelled to the region several times in the past & this is definitely one of the best villas we've stayed in. Lovely area, great local food & drink and a villa offering all the modern home comforts - fab holiday! PS. car hire is a must.

Glad you had a good time and we thought of everything. Absolutely agree car hire is essential. so we specify that very carefully.

“Brilliant location and well equipped”

Reviewed 1 Oct 2013

We really enjoyed our stay at Trullo Alto in September this year. The view from the. Trullo is over rolling farmland and we enjoyed having our meals outside to make the most of it. The beauty of the location was a surprise given that it is only 5 minutes in the car from Alberobello. The swimming pool has recently been refurbished and the overall standard of equipment and decor in the Trullo was excellent. One point to note is that the other Trullo owned by the same owner adjoins Trullo Alto. We had a very nice and quiet couple next door who were out and about a lot so it did not matter to us, but if you want total seclusion this is probably not the place for you (unless you took both Trulli at the same time for a larger group).

There are separate entrances to each trullo and they are screened from each other. We are also very careful about our guests to ensure that they tend to be very quiet couples or small families who are considerate. So far we have never had a complaint about other guests and several occasions where good friendships have been formed. In one case the guests at each trullo now meet for Christmas every year!

“Beautiful spot”

Reviewed 19 Jul 2013

We stayed last month and had a lovely holiday. We used both Trulli and despite soaring temperatures it remained nice and cool inside. The new pool heating was very effective and meant the pool was perfect even for our 9 month old at the beginning of the season. There was a cherry tree next to one trulli which was covered in ripe cherries so we ate them all week straight off the tree! Hire care essential, but with one there are plenty of places to explore. Read the comments book and go to the restaurant that you can walk to... Two of us went there one evening and has a lovely meal of mixed antipasti, a pizza and desert combined with a carafe of wine. Felt slightly guilty when the whole bill came to 33Euros! Thank you to Mark and the team for going out of your way and returning our baby monitor to us in the UK after we left it behind...

“Wonderful, comfortable home”

This home was comfortable and had spectacular views. It is close to all points of interest. I would definitely recommend it and would certainly return.

“Beautifully restored trullo in peaceful location”

Reviewed 16 Sep 2012

We had very happy fortnight here with our three teenage children. The trullo had three bedrooms, two bathrooms and one communal room (kitchen/living room). There was also an outside seating area and pool area (pool was shared with the other trullo). Although very close to Alberobello, there were no other properties in sight. It was an excellent base from which to explore many beautiful towns in Puglia and was less than half an hour from the beach. It suited us perfectly as we were lucky with the weather and spent a lot of time and had all our meals outside. If we had had to spend more time inside though I think the living area might have felt on the small side for all five of us.
