Location description from owner
The Andalucia region
Granada is one of the few regions of Spain where free tapas is still served with your drinks. There is a strong Moorish influence in Andalucia and Granada, from the time that the Moors ruled in Spain. This translates to some unique and interesting architecture such as in the Alhambra palace, and many riad -style houses (carmens) built around central courtyards. Our apartment is in a converted 16th century carmen built around such a courtyard and is set in the most historic district of Granada city, the Albayzin. There is a nearby ski resort with the stunning Sierra Nevada just 45 minute drive away, accessible by bus or taxi. You can ski on up to eight different pistes while enjoying views of the Mediterranean sea. On a clear day it is possible to see as far as the coast of North Africa. There are also 2 18 hole golf courses within 30 minutes drive (city of Granada and Santa Clara golf clubs). Other activities include walking, cycling and horse riding in the mountains. The surrounding coutryside is very scenic and well worth exploring.
Granada is a bustling University city which is very popular with visitors from around Spain aswell as from the rest of the world.Granada was first settled by native tribes in the prehistoric period, and was known as Ilbyr. When the Romans colonised southern Spain, they built their own city here and called it Illibris. The Arabs, invading the peninsula in the 8th century, gave it its current name of Granada. It was the last Muslim city to fall to the Christians in 1492, at the hands of Queen Isabel of Castile. The Albayzin is the most historic and enchanting area of Granada. It is a Unesco world heritage site where development is strictly controlled to maintain the charm of the area. It is a fascinating labyrinth of narrow cobbled streets and whitewashed houses with secluded inner gardens known as carmens. It is set upon a gentle hill facing the Alhambra palace. Our apartment was created within a 16th century carmen which was lovingly restored in 2007. The Plaza de San Nicolas, a short walk up from our apartment, is famous for its magnificent view of the Moorish Alhambra palace. The Alhambra palace is a must see for any visitor to Granada. It is one of the architectural jewels of Western Europe. It consists of a series of palaces and gardens built under the Nazari Dynasty in the 14th C. This mighty compound of buildings stands at the foot of Spain’s highest mountain range, the Sierra Nevada, and overlooks the city below and the fertile plain of Granada. There is also a splendid cathedral (5 minutes from the apartment), bull ring and many lovely Plazas and parks. The owners can recommend some lovely places to eat and drink in Granada or you can enjoy exploring on your own. Either way we are sure you will find some wonderful tapas and dining experiences here. Seafood and cured hams are local specialities but a wide range of delicacies is available. If you prefer to cook at home the nearest supermarket to buy food is El Corte Ingles, about 10 minutes walk from the apartment. Or you can visit Mercadona or Hipercor slightly further from the apartment.Granada is also rich with shopping experiences ranging from clothing and shoes to art and souvenirs. There are very colourful bazaars nearby in the lower Albayzin which sell Morrocan wares including clothes, bags, lamps, jewellery, shoes and furniture. There are a number of arabic cafes amongst them where you can drink exotic teas and eat fabulous pancakes aswell as more traditional North African cuisine. There are a number of festivals and cultural events in Granada. The most colourful and popular is the Semana Santa (holy week) processions around the Easter period. Thre are also theatres and cinemas nearby and even a couple of charming little flamenco and music bars within a few hundred yards of the apartment. Despite the proximity of all these attractions the apartment itself is very peaceful, set back in a small pedestrianised street.

“Amazing family stay at this 3 bedroom apartment in Granada”
Our family of 8 stayed in this beautiful apartment centrally located in the Albaycin quarters of Granada. The desciption of this place is perfect. One of the master bedrooms has an amazing view of the Alhambra which you wake too every morning yet you are ideally located in the jewish qaurters where you can wander and explore the cobble stone streets at your own pace. Plenty of affordable restuarants in the area. One of the recommendations in the brochure was at the plaza San Miguel only 5 minutes up the hill and there were a number of good restuarants located here that you could choose from. This plaza is also the place where you can catch the local buses/Tram to the Alhambra which run every 15 mins or so regularly throughout the day/evening. The apartment was clean and tidy and fully equipped. We were greeted on our arrival and provided all the neccesary information on Granada. Anita was easy to communicate with and was helpful with any of our questions! Our family loved our stay in Granada and we would have no hesitation in recommending this 3 bedroom place to anyone considering a stay in Granada. The place is affordable, clean & tidy and has a perfect location with amazing view of the Alhambra. Thanks for a fabulous stay. Stephen & Cherie
“Great apartment, location and host”
This is a great apartment to enjoy all Granada has to offer. The apartment is clean, spacious, well stocked (kitchen, linen, towels, bedding etc) and safe. The owner was helpful with our questions and made many local recommendations which added to our stay. We were two couples and were very comfortable. The apartment is close to many restaurants, bars etc. and we'd definitely stay when we return. Thanks!
“Romantic and traditional Moorish apartment in UNESCO world heritage Granada.”
This was my second stay in Granada, returning to this property which had been improved since my first visit by the demolition of a nearby building so that there are now proper views of the Alhambra from the apartment! Apartment is in a beautiful part of the old town, cobbled and steep streets though so not great for wheelchairs or buggies. The apartment is sympathetically furnished in a traditional manner. There are nice balconies and a spacious living area. Clean. Friendly owners. Would recommend for a group of friend or couples looking for a romantic getaway. Granada and the Alhambra are truly stunning and worth visiting.
“lovely traditional Moorish apartment in historic old town of Granada”
Stayed here with 2 other couples but it is also prefect for a romantic weekend away. In fact loved it so much that this is the second time I have rented this apartment - first time was with my partner. Loved that the apartment is in a traditional old building across the river from the Alhambra, up cobbled streets in the romantic whitewashed old part of Granada. There is Moorish style decor and furniture throughout in keeping with the buildiing. Walking distance to all the tapas bars and to the Alhambra. Great place to spend a few days, there's lots to see and do in Granada as well as great food! This apartment wouldn' t be suitable for those with limited mobility / heavy prams/ buggies due flight of (traditional old picturesque!) wooden stairs to get up to the front door. But this is a really lovely place to stay if you are interested in staying in and seeing historical Granada or for a break away with friends to sample the tapas bars. ps. although no wifi in the apartment cafe 4 gatos just around the corner has free wifi.
“Excellent location to explore Granada”
My husband and I stayed here with our two teenager children and were very happy with the accommodations. The piso was clean, spacious, and well equipped. Having spent time in Granada before, it is without question one of the best locations to explore the entire city, especially the Albaycin and Alhambra. We would stay here again!
“Lovely apartment, excellent location, helpful owners.”
Really enjoyed our stay in this charming apartment, we have stayed twice before. It is very nicely furnished and well equipped . Loved sitting on the balconies on sunny mornings. The apartmentis right in the heart of the Albayzin and cafes. Town is easy to walk to. The owners gave us two maps and lots of recommendations of nice places to eat. Could even get fresh bread in the street nearby and a good grocery store around the corner. The Alhambra is close by. Looking forward to our next stay here.
So pleased to hear that you enjoyed your holiday in our apartment. We very much look forward to you staying again. As returning guests we will be happy to offer you a good discount!
“A comfortable and spacious holiday rental in a splendid period courtyard property.”
Granada is an enchanting city with plenty to see and do. This stunning apartment is situated conveniently near to (but far enough away from) the buzzing shops, bars and cafes of the beautiful old town. The apartment is clean, cool and comfortable. It is decorated and furnished to a high standard. The charming British owners provided useful information prior to arriving. I loved it so much that I have been twice and hope to go again very soon! Truly delightful.
“No one available to help”
There owner/manager of this apartment does not live in Granada and there is no one available locally . This makes it impossible for me to recommend this apartment. This apartment was very difficult to find in the winding streets of Granada. When we finally located the small unnamed store that had the key, the store owner did not know which was the correct key. There was no one available to show us how to use the air conditioning or internet or help us find a local grocery to buy supplies. On our last night, the neighbors had an all night party that kept us up until 4 am.
We are very sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy your stay in Granada. It is regrettable that you didn't attempt to contact us on our mobiles or by email at any point during your trip - we would probably have been able to resolve these issues for you. We also have a local lady who prepares the apartment and organises maintenance. She is always happy to be contacted in case of urgent problems but we were unaware of them until now. The Albayzin is an historic UNESCO world heritage site and we believe much of its charm lies in its winding lanes. The whole area can be a little difficult to navigate but this is not unique to our apartment and we provide detailed maps and directions and are always very happy to answer queries. It is very unfortunate that your stay was disrupted by noise late at night. We can sympathise with this but obviously it is not something that we could have prevented, even if we were in Granada at the time. We have never been woken at night from excessive noise and none of our previous guests have ever complained about the neighbours before. It is usually exceptionally peaceful at night, despite it's proximity to town.
The apartment is very, very good. It is a typical Andalusian courtyard well recovered, with other apartments, in a very quiet environment. It is close to several tourist attractions, but the character of the very steep streets and the inability to access by car, do not make it the best option for some people with limited mobility, with very young children or a lot of luggage. It was very clean when we arrived and is very well equipped, but the existence of a microwave would favor it even more. The owner was a focus, extreme earnestness and kindness throughout all the booking process. Very, very recommended!
