The Paphos District

paphos region
Pafos is located on the southwest coast of the island and is sheltered from the north by the Troodos mountains. It has a temperate climate, one of the healthiest in the whole Mediterranean. In the Pafos region of Cyprus you can bask in sunshine 80 % of the year and feel the warmth of a welcoming people with a reputation for hospitality. Splash about in the sparkling warm waters of the Mediterranean in the summer; marvel at the splendours of nature as the fields are carpeted in wild flowers in the spring; explore ancient sites in perfect temperatures in the autumn; and in the mild winter keep fit with a round or two of golf or an invigorating game of tennis

Paphos Area Information:

Historical points of interest

Charming harbour

Sandy and pebbly beaches

Paphos (or Pafos) is one of the most beautiful and ancient towns of Cyprus. Wherever one treads in Paphos he comes across its glorious history which dates back thousands of years, when the cult of goddess Aphrodite who emerged from its seas, flourished in this beautiful part of the world attracting many visitors from the island and abroad.

Today Paphos is a small harbour town, but in Hellenistic and Roman times it was the capital of Cyprus. Still under the spell of her Beauty-Goddess, the area retaining her magic, has remained impact by time. Paphos seduces its visitor with its majestic landscape, lovely coastline, historical treasures and delightful villages where tradition is still a way of life.

The legacy from its remarkable history adds up to nothing less than an open museum, so much so that UNESCO simply added the whole town its world Cultural Heritage List. Among the treasures unearthed, are the remarkable mosaics in the Houses of Dionyssos, Theseus and Aion, beautifully preserved after 16 centuries under the soil. Then there are the mysterious vaults and caves, the Tombs of the Kings, the ancient Odeon Theatre and other places of interest including the various Museums.

“Fantastic Value for Money”

Reviewed 13 Oct 2016

Isolated, with good views over Coral Bay, this place is amazing. The owners were not in downstairs so we made good use of the infinity pool and BBQ in the lower area, watching the sunset whilst enjoying a cocktail. Simos, who looked after us, lives about 5 minutes away and is a very helpful and knowledgeable man. His recommendation for a local restaurant was excellent. You definitely need a car for this place though, it's a long hot walk to the nearest supermarket (which is 5 minutes away in the car).
