A house full of elegant style and character - with large airy rooms - built at the beginning of the 19th century. Massive stone walls which keep it cool during the hottest summer days. Lovers of minimalism and IKEA - this is NOT for you!!!!
However if you like a timeless charm yet with all the necessary modernities of life this IS for you. If you want peace, quiet and YOUR space where your kids can roam free finding 'nature' then YES this is your place!
The house is set on a slight hill which overlooks the village and is surrounded by about one acre of gardens, mostly grassed, with trees, rose beds and herb gardens, on three levels, and a 'paddock' alongside for ball games. Where there is also a vegetable garden growing lettuces, tomatoes, beans, courgettes, potatoes, etc. etc. - all for your use!!!
The secluded swimming pool - 11 x 5meters - (with solar heating) is on the lower level, with a fridge in the small poolhouse (no mad dashes up the garden for cold drinks or champagne for the midnight dips - yes it's got underwater floodlighting too!)
Lots of tables, chairs, sunloungers, parasols and two barbeques - plenty of space to choose your favourite place to eat
FREE......Herbs.................Vegetables.................and........WINE!!!!!!!!! to welcome you to 'real' France!!!!!!!!!!!

The Aquitaine region
This is Gascony, - the 'real France'! Set in the gastronomic heartland of France and surrounded by quiet unspoiled countryside of enchanting rolling hills, and soft gentle colours; if you want a relaxed holiday in beautiful surroundings where the kids can wander free and discover nature - you've just found it!
The Gascons are renowned for the warmth and welcome they extend to visitors - Gascony now part of Aquitaine - is home to 'D'Artagnan' (he was a real person! Charles de Batz Castelmore - born in nearby Lubiac). The village of Miramont -a Bastide, was founded by Edward I of England. History is all around - churches (many dating from the 12th century), museums and roman mosaics. Even the historic pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostelo passes though the village.
Food and Drink -The Gascon passion. If you enjoy food and wine this is the place for you. Pork and beef are of the highest quality but the duck is king - along with its princely foie gras. You can buy all these at local markets, where you can also buy fresh fruit, vegetables, home produced cheeses and honey. Restaurants abound - from the small family run hostelries offering a 4 or 5 course menu (including wine) for about 14 euros, to the 3*** Michelin restaurant at Eugenie les Bains (just 12 kms away) where the bill could be 10 times as much!
Maybe eating 'in' (especially for the children) is a more practical idea. Not a problem. Supermarkets - big and small - are within a few kilometres, and here you can choose from a mouth watering array of pre-prepared dishes ranging from wild boar through shellfish to a bewildering variety of terrines and pates. The wines here are arguably some of the best in France and certainly the cheapest -Madiran, Tursan, Jurancon and Armagnac without dissent the finest brandy in France.
For a real shopping experience go to Pau - not only is it a fascinating town - but it has a truly magical food market.
The Atlantic coast, with several beaches to choose from, is about 90km away - reputedly boasting the finest surfing in Europe. Further afield you will find the Basque country - with its great cities of Bayonne, Biarritz and St. Jean de Luz. A different world, a different language - then up into the mountains of Col d'Ibardin to find cheap wine, spirits, food and petrol (not to mention leather goods!) The pilgrimage mecca of Lourdes is about an hours drive away.
