Location description from owner

The Rethymnon Prefecture region

Crete is the most southern of Greek islands and has many mountains and miles of beaches. It is famous for the Samaria Gorge but there are many other gorges nearby to walk and experience the wild and rugged scenery.Or if it is beaches and swimming you enjoy, the beaches on the south coast are quiet and often deserted. Spring is the best time to see the flowers of Crete and is good for walking and bird watching. July and August are the hottest months and can be windy too .There are many historic places of interest such as Knossos on the North coast and the Venetian town of Chania.

Agia Paraskevi

There are miles of beaches to choose from between Agios Pavlos and Preveli. Nearby, the stunning beaches, of Ligres and Triopetra also have some with excellent tavernas with reasonably priced food. Triopetra offers free sunbeds and umbrellas when you buy a drink in the taverna. Even in August you can usually find a secluded part of the beach where you can get an overall tan if you wish! Under one hours’ drive from the historic town of Rethymnon with Venetian fortress, museum and markets. It is 30 minutes drive from the mountain town of Spili with Venetian fountains, supermarkets, local shops and internet cafes. It is 15 minutes drive along the coast road to the beautiful gorge of Prevelli with palm fringed beach and the famous monastery near by. The Minoan palace of Faistos, and Roman city of Gortys and the Amari valley, are all within easy reach. The area rich in wildlife, flora and fauna, where you can find rare wild orchids in spring and watch Griffin vultures soar overhead. There are several kilometres of unspoilt beaches situated within easy distance from the house. Some of the beaches have tavernas where one can enjoy original Cretan cuisine and great local wine. The beaches are located minutes away by car. The small hotel/taverna of Pegasus is 2 minutes walk and can provide free internet as well as a restaurant and bar. The area is ideal for keen walkers and many walks can be done from the house both up into the mountain and along the coast. Other activities: relaxing & sightseeing, walking & climbing and bird spotting.

“We stepped off the spinning world and re-discovered ourselves”

Reviewed 28 Aug 2013

The Villa exceeded our expectations, the location and the views are to die for we spent many hours on the roof terrace just watching the world go buy. Rush hour consisted of 6 cars leaving the beach. There is a beach to suit all tastes in fact on some days we had a beach to ourselves. The food was fantastic in all the Taverna and with one only 2 minutes walk away you can drink & walk!. Great instructions on how to get to the villa a normal car is fine we had a Panda, next time we will get a 4by4 just so we can explore more. Will we return of course as soon as we can find someone to look after the kids.!

Owner's reply: We are very pleased that you enjoyed the 'end of the world experience' when you stayed in Agia Paraskevi. It is also wonderful in springtime when it is not so hot and there is a wonderful variety of wild flowers.
